La Belle Etoile is a beautiful stone built 300 year old Normandy farmhouse surrounded by a large garden with a glorious panorama to the west over the valley. The property is on a 'chemin rurale' making it very safe for children and ideal for walking and cycling. Situated in an excellent area for tourism. La Belle Etoile is in an area often known as 'Mer et Terre' - 'sea and land' - because we live close to the see and in a beautiful country area not dissimilar to Dorset. The area has many interests available including horse riding, fishing, swimming, sailing, surf-boarding, canoeing and tennis. The house is situated between the historic towns of Avranches, Granville, Coutances and Villedieu-les-Poeles and within 40 minutes of Le Mont St. Michel and Bayeux. Both Brittany and the Normandie landing beaches are an easy 'day trip' from the house, as are the beautiful sandy western coastal beaches where you can walk for miles.

Notes on accommodation
Pets accepted only on request, ideal safe setting for children - we have a swing etc. The house is a no-smoking house but at the front of the property there is a glass porch, locally known as a marquise, which is ideal for the smokers' zone!
Accessibility
This property is not suitable for those with difficulty climbing the stairs as there are no downstairs bedrooms.
Outside
We have over an acre of lawns, there is a children's play area, a terrace with outsdoor table an chairs both at the front and back of the house, gravelled terrace at the back (west) of the property overlooking the valley. The property is on a crossroads of bridle paths making it ideal for short or long walks in the country. At the back of the property we have a field coming to the edge of the lawns which you can walk in as well.
Coast/Beach
Our favourite beach is Coudeville Sur Mer (Plage) because it's easy to park, there's great little bar (Bar des Rivages) that serves the best mussels and chips in the world (we're not biased), lovely empty beaches safe for swimming, and at low tide all the mussel farming activity - you won't be bored! And you are directly opposite the unknown French Channel Islands of Chausey - you can take a trip there from Granville - by boat of course. All along the coast there are lovely empty sandy beaches.
Golf
There are a number of golf clubs within the area - notably the Granville Club which has a combination of 9, 18 or 27 holes.
Others include: Golf Centre Manche, Le Haut Bosq, Saint-Martin-d'Aubigny - 02 33 45 24 52.
Golf Club Coutainville, 6, Avenue Golf, Agon Coutainville - 02 33 47 03 31.
Golf Municipal. Rue Golf, Brehal - 02 33 51 58 88.
Skiing
The nearest you get to skiing here is water skiing!
Travel
A car (or horse) is essential. For those coming by ferry Cherbourg and Caen are both about 70 miles or and 1 and a quarter's drive, Le Havre is 2 hours. Dieppe is 3 hours and Calais and the Tunnel about 4.5 hours. Flights come (and go) from Dinard, Rennes, Cherbourg and Caen - all about an hour and a bit each.
Distances
Gavray is about 2 miles - a great local market town. Saturdays are the best with the market and everyone assembles at the Bar des Sport for coffee and one of David's suasage sandwiches (the blue van in the market) which you can take into the bar to eat providing you buy drinks there. There is also the 'Marche a veaux' that's worth seeing - every Wednesday at 11am you can join a tour of this market. Just go to the tourist office.
Further details
There's a good supermarket - just at the exit on the D7 going toward Coutances, 3 bakers, 2 butchers, a charcuterie which also does take away food (great for the lazy like me), 2 banks, post office, 2 restaurants. Sorry, Gavray hasn't quite got its website into English yet - but the sites worth looking at - please ask for details.

Thank you letter dated 21 July 2008, booked through French Connections:
'Dear Pippa,
A short note to thank you so much for the loan of your beautiful house for our holiday.
We had a great time in the lovely area of Normandy - the weather was mixed - but that didn’t matter - it was a lovely relaxing holiday. So much to see and do in the area.
The games room was a real hit with girls and boyfriends!
Many thanks again -we would certainly return.
Kind regards,
Steve A.'

About the owner
We love La Belle Etoile, our home for some of the year. We usually rent in out in the summer, and sometimes at other times too. We have lovely neighbours, both French and English and have been made very welcome by them, and also in the local towns. Because the house is our home it is furnished to a higher standard than many gites, and we are very proud of our home, and the beautiful area it is situated in, great for tourism and days out. It is possible to walk quite some way off-road (possibly as far as Le Mont St Michel but we haven’t tried that yet!) on the bridle paths that pass the end of our drive - great news for those thinking of getting fit whilst on holiday! We love our home and hope you will be very happy should you decide to rent it from us.
Year purchased: 2000
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We have always wanted to buy a property in France, and particularly chose this area because we love it and it is so easily accessible from the UK and elsewhere in France. La Bellet Etoile is ideal - apparently far removed from townlife, but only three kilometres to a thriving town - Gavray - with its markets, shops, bars and activities.
Unique benefits of the property
Well, apart from the bridle paths at the end of our drive, the ease of access which we have already mentioned, we have a games room with a Baby Football table and a snooker table; we also have wired internet access, no no awkward programming. Your children will be safe here, we have a lovely big field behind us which is used only for hay, which has no fence between it and the lawns, and people love to walk around the edge of the field, which we keep cut short.
