This is truly a charming and beautiful house - the best and most relaxed holiday we have ever had.

We have had a wonderful time in your delightful chateau.

Steeped in history, a pleasure to come home to in the evening.

Owner profile

About the owner
I am an artist who worked in Britain organising art exhibitions and public commissions. I have lived in this house for 20 years and have had enormous fun and creative pleasure restoring it. I have 2 daughters, one a film producer, the other a singer songwriter who has represented her country at dressage. Whilst splitting their time between Hollywood, New York and London they always return to Sauzet to recharge their creative batteries.

Year purchased: 1990

Why the owner chose a home in this location
This area offers us a wonderful combination of beautiful landscape and culture. For me as an artist this is the perfect setting. We enjoy the wide variety of historical towns and villages including the beautiful Roman city of Nimes, which always regards itself as a Provencal city. Our first visit to the Arena at Nimes for a concert was very special. We like markets and there is always one on close to us, some weekly, some special events. Cooking is important to us and the local ingredients are superb - our local asparagus is especially good. There is an abundance of good vineyards at prices that are very reasonable. Visits to vineyards for tastings are a pleasure and we, even after 20 years, are still discovering little gems. Entertaining is inexpensive but endlessly enjoyable.

Unique benefits of the property
We are in a friendly village with amenities but a village that has virtually no second homes. This means that the local culture is strong and very much alive Each village has its Fete Votive which provides 3 -5 days of celebratory meals, singing, dancing and the running of the bulls. An experience that has to be seen and shared in. Our village is near enough to the mountains and the sea to provide many choices but as the summers are sunny and warm even just lazing by the pool is a pleasure. Our house provides comfort linked with history and charm in a setting that is private but not isolated.
