Our Pauillac and Pomerol gites have been renovated to provide high quality accommodation. Light, airy and spacious yet maintaining much of its original character with exposed beams etc, they both provide that sought after French style without the doom and gloom often associated with French gites. Both have a large modern kitchen/diner fitted with modern units, gas cooker, fridge and microwave. The large lounge (20ft by 10ft) overlooks the private terrace and communal landscaped gardens. The terrace is furnished with sunbeds, table, chairs, parasol and of course, the essential barbeque. Watch the sunset over the 12th century church whilst enjoying a glass of wine on the terrace. The master bedroom, (20ft by 10ft), retains its original character with exposed beams and ornate bedhead. The second bedroom enjoys a galleried view of the lounge. Set in an acre of gardens and benefiting from an 11x5m outdoor pool, Pauillac is decorated in rich creams and white.

Notes on accommodation
Our gites have recently been renovated to a very high standard to create a home from home environment. Especially suitable for couples seeking a tranquil location set within the vineyards and sunflowers whilst remaining close to the mainstream activities of nearby Royan.

Over 40 kilometres of sandy beaches stretch along the Atlantic coastline. The most popular beaches are:
Saint Georges de Didonne - a long flat beach which is great for young and old alike.
Royan - a beatiful beach set adjacent to the pleasure port and shops/bars.
Saint Palais - a small bay with a very popular beach overlooked by restaurants.
La Grande Cote - a great beach if you love the watersports including surfing, wind sailing etc.
Cote Sauvage - a very strong current with lots of surf.

Further details
Local shopping. There are no shops in Thezac. However, our next village, (Meursac) which is a 5 minute drive has a very good bakery, a local supermarket, post office, pharmacy, butcher and newsagent. Retaud, also a 5 minute drive, (in the opposite direction), has a local store, post office, bakery, and butcher, (excellent meat!).
The nearest large supermarkets are based in Saujon, which is about 10 minutes by car. Here you will find Super U and Intermarche, both of which are very good. Super U is probably the better of the two because it is has its own bakery, cafe, florist, fishmonger and even hairdresser in situ.
The major hypermarkets are located in Saintes (LeClerc and Carrefour) and in Royan (LeClerc) but be warned steer clear of LeClerc on Saturdays and Mondays in Royan - is always gridlocked and you could wait an hour getting into the car park! There is a good shopping centre in Saintes, which tends to be very popular on Saturdays, where you can while away the time in a street cafe.
Local Restaurants
We have a few local restaurants close by and these are some of our favourites:
'La Table' in Meursac, (5 minutes),is run by a young couple who took over the place about 2 years ago. They both speak some English and we have found them to be very helpful. The food is excellent, reasonably priced and the restaurant setting is very comfortable.
L'Auberge de Moulins at Saujon, (10 minutes), is an old watermill which has been converted into a restaurant. The food is excellent and you are guaranteed a warm welcome by the young owners.
If you really want to enjoy a gourmet dinner you must visit 'La Foret' near Meschers (20 mins.) you will need to reserve a table though. A 5 course menu costs around 25 euros at the end of which you will be absolutely full up.
Le Cottage at Arces sur Gironde, (20 minutes), has become one ofour latest favourites. A young Irish chef and his French wife provide an excellent menu draft Guinness is also available!

"We found the gite to be very clean and roomy, it was like a home from home we wanted for nothing. Ken & Nicky were the perfect hosts and were always on hand for any problems, but also let you get on with your holiday.
It was ideally situated for exploring all the many places nearby. The pool was ideal for relaxing after a days sightseeing. The nearby restaurants which Ken booked for us were exellent. We would recoommend the gites to anyone. In fact we enjoyed it that much we booked up straight away for this year.
