Further details
There is a wealth of things to do and see in the area. Here are some of our favourites:
Castles, Caves And Medieval Towns - There are large medieval Chateaux at Bannes (SE of Bergerac), at Beynac on the River Dordogne Nr Dommes, in Duras and at Puymatin Nr Sarlat La Caneda. The Caves and cave paintings at Les Eyzies, especially at the Font-de-Gaume, are very special. Medieval towns and villages abound and are within easy reach of Maison Soleil. Ste Foy La Grande, Libourne and Bergerac are 'Bastides' (walled 12th century towns built by the English) and are well worth a visit. St Emilion is a medieval treasure and just a magical place to visit and enjoy. A World Heritage site, you will want to visit again and again.
Markets and History - In St Foy La grande, there are numerous shops and Restaurants for you to explore and a traditional and extensive market (one of the top 50 in France) on Saturday morning providing lots of opportunities to find a bargain or two. Try also the Wednesday Market in Montpon (15miles NE) and in Castillon La Bataille (4miles W) on Sunday am. Castillon is where the last battle of the 100 years war was fought out in 1453 and this is re-enacted evey year (wkends July and August) with much pageantry, wine, food and fireworks.
Wine Tasting - There is an huge choice of Wine Chateaux around Montcaret and wine tours and tastings can easily be arranged. Just take the car NW of Montcaret and loose yourself amongst the many wine chateaux in the wine growing villages around Montagne St Emilion and in St Emilion itself.
Swimming, Cycling, Tennis Or Horse Riding - Near Maison Soleil, there is easy access to quiet roads for cycling and there are tennis courts and a football pitch only 200 metres away. As well as the Splash Pool at Maison Soleil, swimming or fishing, canoeing and kyaking can all be undertaken by the River Dordogne. If you like Horse riding, there is an Equestrian Centre in St Antoine de Bruilh less than 10 minutes drive away.

"This is a lovely and well cared for property. About 30 minutes from beautiful St Emilion and there are plenty of vineyards to see close by. We had a great stay, and the children loved all the games, the bikes and the lovely garden. The River is only a mile away which was a really lovely cycle ride away." Sonya V, Sep 2007.
"Very comfortable and relaxing place for a holiday with everything on your door stop. Lovely garden with resident squirrels and many intersting birds. Well recommended.
Excellent place for seeing the best of the Dordogne. A week is not long enough so we will be going back for longer next year to see more. Mayfield Family. June 08.
We had a great holiday and found Maison-Soliel a beautiful and well equipped home, it was such a delight to reach after our 24 hour journey to get there!
