Set at the head of an English-style garden of 3000 square metres, our enormous apartment is now available for letting. It is suitable for one family with one or two children, and is comfortably furnished and fully equipped. Sleeping accommodation is in one very large family room, formerly the hay-loft, with curtains and screens dividing the sleeping areas in order to preserve the massive volume of the room. An alternative arrangement is to use the king-sized convertible in the sitting-room.

Notes on prices
Our standard price is £175 per person per week, with minimum prices assuming 2 people. This does not vary according to the season. Additional numbers above 2 are charged accordingly, with reductions for children. The apartment is not suitable for toddlers. Changeover day is normally Saturday.

Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday. Guests are asked to arrive after 2pm and to vacate the premises before 10 am, leaving them clean and tidy for the owners to prepare for the next guests to their very high standards.

The large beamed family room, with en-suite bathroom, has 3 sleeping areas: 1:king-size bed, 2:three-quarter antique iron bed, and 3:smaller antique iron bed suitable for a younger child, of up to 11 years. Ample bedroom storage, with dressing tables, cupboards, wardrobes, etc.
En-suite bathroom with shower, lavatory, hand-basin, shelves, mirrors, etc.
Also upstairs is the sitting-room, with original massive beams, a convertible sofa (makes king-size bed); satelliteTV/video/DVD. Music centre, bookshelves with a library of up-to-date fiction, armchairs.
On the ground floor: fully fitted dining-kitchen with washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, range cooker, large fridge, drinks fridge, dining for 8.
Antique dining table and chairs.
On the terrace: charming summer dining area with glass-topped tables and 8 chairs. Gardens. Pool. Non-smoking.

 

Notes on accommodation
The apartment is fully equipped for permanent living. Constant hot water is delivered to the apartment, and the rental price includes all energy costs during the summer months. Central heating can be made available at extra cost.

Accessibility
Not suitable for people with mobility problems; access to the upstairs accommodation is by an open wooden staircase.

Outside
The apartment has its own extensive terrace and garden, with ample dining furniture, parasols, etc. A portable BBQ is available. Guests have unrestricted access to the pool (10x5m, 15m from the house, heated,fenced and lockable) which is shared with the owners and their friends. There is room for guest cars on the integral car park.

Coast/Beach
The beaches of St.Georges-de-Didonne, Meschers, and Royan are 30 mins' drive in normal traffic conditions. All are suitable for families with young children, with good facilities. North of Royan the Cote Sauvage and the Grand Cote offer fewer facilities but more exciting Atlantic waves. Buckets and spades are available for those who travel by air.

Golf
There are two golf-courses within less than an hour's drive, north of Royan and north of Saintes.

Travel
The nearest channel port is St. Malo with Brittany Ferries (four hours, dual carriageway or autoroute all the way). Ryanair flies Stansted-La Rochelle (1 hour's drive). BmiBaby flies Manchester- Bordeaux (also 1 hour's drive but in more difficult driving conditions). FlyBe now flies Manchester and Southampton to La Rochelle. A car is essential as there is virtually no public transport in this area.

To Villars: 1km. To Gémozac: 5km. To Pons: 7km. To Saintes: 15km. To Cognac: 30km. To Royan and the beaches: 30km. To St. Emilion: 100km.

Further details
This is an area rich in history, on the mediaeval pilgrim route from Northern Europe to Compostello. Romanesque churches abound. There is good music, especially in Saintes and the villages, ranging over all genres. Lots of local events, art exhibitions, and sporting events. Gemozac and Pons have their own racecourses. Bikes are available,tennis is available in the village by arrangement. Fishing is available locally. This area is renowned for its sunny climate.

A non-returnable deposit of 10% is required on confirmation, the remainder to be paid 6 weeks before the letting begins.

Frequent comment is about the warm welcome guests receive, the support they are given when necessary, and high level of comfort and amenity in the apartment, not to mention its beauty, with its Provencal colours, enormous spaces, and interesting furniture.
