Facilities at La Grande Maison are for the exclusive use of your party. The house is 2 minutes walk from the village centre of Kergrist with 2 bar/restaurants and a good shop. Just 10 minutes drive from Pontivy a historic town having an impressive Chateau. Here there is a good choice of restaurants, supermarkets and interesting shops. Inside La Grande Maison an entrance hall leads to the traditional kitchen. Unspoiled, yet accommodating all ‘mod cons’, plenty of seating around a farmhouse table. On the other side of the hall is the sitting room with ample comfy sofas and an open fire. Also downstairs is a large games room and gym area plus bathroom and separate loo. Upstairs, 2 double en-suite bedrooms, a twin, and another loo. For a special treat we have a hot tub set within the old stone walls of the former farm buildings. Large gardens to the front and rear with a choice of barbeque areas and ample garden furniture. We are happy for you to bring your dogs, making a nominal charge.

Changeover day
Change over day is usually Saturday, arrival after 4pm, departure by 10am. We can be flexible on days and times in low season.

Bathrooms: Upstairs en-suites to each double room, fully tiled, with a quality shower unit, heated towel rails, WC and wash hand basin.

Kitchen: The huge eat-in kitchen is south facing. There is a large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave. The cooker is gas with 5 burners and an enormous oven/grill.
Utility Room: Rather than a separate utility room, the house keeps its washing machine in the bathroom, the back of the house has plenty of space for any other utility type stuff you may need to do! Indoor drying rack provided as well as outside washing lines.
Living Rooms: The sitting room, separate from the other downstairs rooms, is generously proportioned with a feature stonewall, open fire and luxurious sofas, CD player/radio and TV/Video/DVD with Freeview UK channels. One of the sofas converts to a double bed-settee.
Other: Accessed from the hall there is an area with a few pieces of gym equipment to fight the flab and also a games room with a full sized table tennis table, electronic darts board and table football. You can also hop out to the rear garden area from here.

linen/maid service:
Duvets, pillows, bed linen, towels and dressing gowns are provided free of charge. Fresh linen and towels are available weekly. We will clean the house during your stay upon request for a small charge. We clean for you on departure day, no extra charge.

Notes on accommodation
At La Grande Maison we aim to provide a 'home from home'. All mod cons are provided, full central heating, open fire and quality fixtures and fittings. We also provide an extensive ‘Starter pack’ ranging from herbs and spices, tea, coffee and sugar plus all that you would hope to find in a kitchen and includes six bottles of wine. All cleaning and washing products are also provided together with a good selection of games for everyone.

Outside
Large garden areas to front and back of house extending to over an acre. There is also a large parking area to the front of the house. The front garden is laid mainly to grass and is surrounded by mature trees and hedging with numerous flower beds. The rear garden again is laid mainly to grass but has block-paved patio area with sun loungers, garden table and chairs. There is also a large stone built BBQ. The hot tub is set within the former farm buildings to the front of the property and is enclosed by wooden decking with seating. It is a large seven seater hot tub and during the colder months is set at 40 Degrees.

Coast/Beach
We are located between three coastlines, the furthest being about an hour away. The South coast can be reached in about 45 mins with long stretches of sandy beaches and boat trips to some of the 365 islands in the Gulf De Morbihan. The west coast is very different with fewer beaches and a far rockier coastline, great for walking. The Northern coast, is famous for the green coloured rock formations. 15 mins from the house is Lac De Guerlédan with safe, sandy beaches and water sports available.

Golf
There are numerous excellent golf courses throughout Brittany which represent great value for money. Compared to the UK they are very well presented and have far fewer players. You need have no fear of ‘First Tee Nerves’! The nearest course is at nearby Pontivy. It is currently a tricky 9 Hole course, permission has been granted for a further 9 Holes. Links courses are about an hour away and several have hosted the National Championships. We will happily arrange tee-times on request.

Special interest holidays
How about a tennis holiday? There is an excellent indoor and outdoor tennis facility in nearby Pontivy. We can arrange court times to suit, and playing partners if you wish. This would ideally suit a party of 4 or 6 people booking La Grande Maison, mixing friendly sport as well as touring the area, relaxing 'at home' with a glass of wine in the hot tub before dinner. Clay pigeon shooting can be arranged, call us for more information.

Approximate travel times by car from the main channel ferry ports and airports to La Grande Maison are as follows: Airports - Dinard (Pleurtuit) 1 hour 30 mins. Brest (Guipavas) 2 hours. Rennes 90 mins. Budget airlines operate from both. Ferries - St Malo 1 hour 40 mins. Roscoff 2 hours. Caen 3 hours 30 mins. Cherbourg 4 hours. Le Havre 4 hours. Dieppe 4 hours 30 mins. Calais 6 hours. Boulogne 6 hours. Talk to us about possible discounts and most appropriate routes for your needs.

We are in sight of Kergrist village centre, two excellent bar/restaurants and an old fashioned village shop all only 2 minutes walk. Everything you need without having to drive.

Lots of interesting little bars to be found if you explore the little cobbled side streets. Having lived in Brittany, full time (no going back!) since 2002, we just wish we had started sooner. A wonderful place to live and welcome guests, all year round. We feel safe and happy here, the Breton people are warm and friendly. We feel privileged to be here, taking care of a grand old property. John and Mary Jack.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We were searching for the right location for a home and a gite rental business combined. We wanted to find somewhere to live permanently to include a characterful property as a gite, staying close to the UK for ease of access. After much searching we found what was destined to become our home and business,we made some improvements to the old house and brought her into the 21st.century whilst careful to retain the warmth and character of an old building. The number of returning and referred guests bears testimony to the fact that we got it right. Comments in the visitors book shows that all those who have stayed in the old house have enjoyed the same warmth that we feel she shows. The whole village is welcoming and whether it be in the bars or the boulangerie everyone is keen to greet you.

Unique benefits of the property
One of the main attributes of the house is the fact that it is an exclusive let. No shared facilities. We as owners live next door, available for support if needed, otherwise, well out of the way! The hot tub in the barn, with an open aspect to the garden and the spectacular, night sky, is a bit special. Astro tourism is on the fringes of what we have to offer....there is very little light pollution here in Central Brittany, total absence of large cities, the view of stars is stunning. We are 10 minutes drive from the chateau town of Pontivy with a good choice of restaurants and shops. The house is no more than an hour from the north and south coasts. The largest lake in Brittany is close by with water sports and endless spectacular walks.
