Further details
Les Arbres is nestled deep in the heart of the Perigord Limousin Regional National Park. This is the famous 'Perigord Vert' region of the Dordogne, characterised by its forests of nut and pine trees, heathland, lakes and wildlife. This beautiful region has retained its character and to this day remains tranquil and unspoilt. Farms are small and hedgerows undisturbed. The area is famous for its farm products, including foie gras, nut oils, truffles, nuts, ceps and duck products. You can buy fresh eggs from our neighbours Ulla and Ullrich across the lane, and local produce at our local market at Piegut on Wednesdays. Wildlife is abundant, and there are red deer, red squirrels, wild boar, orchids and buzzards near Les Brousses. You will even find a pair of protected Green Lizards nesting near our Cottage! There is a wealth of treasures and heritage to explore in the area from caves, chateaux, medieval cities and picturesque villages along with some spectacular scenery. Whether you prefer cycling, trekking, fishing, horse-riding or canoeing down the rivers, wandering through the quaint old towns or eating and drinking, there is plenty to see and do. Free days out include market day in Piegut and Brantome, swimming lakes, cycling and walking, visiting villages such as Brantome and the 'Plus Beaux Villages de France' of St Jean-de-Cole and Aubterre-sur-Dronne, or just lazing in the garden. Other days out include canoeing (very popular with all our guests), the Grotte de Villars with its prehistoric cave paintings, stalactites and stalagmites, nearby fishing at the beautiful and professional Petit Moulin, 10 pin bowling in a lovely village, visiting chateaux, the WW2 site of Oradour-sur-Glane, the Perigord heritage village of Le Bournat, the Acquarium at Le Bugue, the spooky Maison Forte de Reignac, the fabulous overhanging Gardens at Marqueyssac and the gardens of the imagination at Terrasson. We have had an excellent time here. The gite has so much going for it, stacks of room, all the necessary amenities / resources and a fantastic setting in the secluded garden and pool. The information supplied by Pat and Gill was extremely helpful and all our family felt “at home” here. M&D.
We have never stayed in such a well equipped holiday home - the children have had a great time in the garden. A,T,J, B&E.
Lovely gite, very relaxing, did lots of cycling, beautiful countryside. D&C.
We have had a fabulous time, busy the first few days then simply enjoyed the gardens and pool. We definitely plan to come again, particularly as there is so much we didn't see in the area. F,P&Z.
Had a great week, loved the pool and massive garden. O (aged 11).
We were hoping for a quiet relaxing holiday in beautiful rural France and that's exactly what we got. I have no doubt we will return to this lovely corner of France and we look forward to meeting Gill and Pat again. P&F.

About the owner
Thank you for visiting our Owners Direct pages. We fell in love with France and the French lifestyle during lots of happy holidays, and spent several years looking for our ideal home here. We always aimed to retire early to start a new life, and buying Les Arbres is helping us to achieve that dream. The three gites were already rented out successfully when we purchased the property, and the income is helping to fund the renovation of the barn opposite (don't worry, there won't be any noisy work in summer!). Once finished, the barn will become our new home and we will move to France permanently. Until then, we live and work in London, but spend as much time in France as we can. Les Arbres is managed by our friends Mike and Penny, who live just a few minutes away. Gill and Pat Connors.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
This area of the Dordogne has lots going for it but is much less busy than other parts. We are situated in the Perigord Limousin National Park, so expect unspoilt countryside, lakes, forests of pine and nut trees, farms, heath and Limousin cattle. There is lots of wildlife including orchids and other wild flowers, deer, red squirrels, wild boar, buzzards, protected lizards and salamanders to mention a few. We love the slow pace of life, and although it takes a while to get used to the shops closing at lunchtime for two hours, you soon learn to do the same and enjoy lunch at one of the many good restaurants. Although we speak little French, the people round here are friendly and helpful. Despite the quiet location there is lots to do for young and old; have a look at our website for ideas!
Unique benefits of the property
We loved Les Arbres as soon as we saw it and knew that it would be a great holiday location for families. The gites are very traditional in appearance, but have modern bathrooms and kitchens and carefully chosen quality furniture throughout. We love making improvements so that family holidays are as enjoyable as possible, and have installed romantic wood burner stoves for chilly Autumn and Spring evenings, new hi-fis with iPod/MP3 connections, TV/DVDs, bikes, free pool towels and new quality linen, pillows and duvets throughout. The fully enclosed garden allows parents to relax with a glass of wine whilst the children play. I'm sure you can tell that we love Les Arbres and think that you will as well - why not visit us and find out?
