La Source sits on a wild thyme covered hillside, surrounded by landscaped gardens and mature trees. The 300 year old mas has been fully renovated into a beautiful family home. The pool, 12m x 5m, sunbathing area and summer kitchen occupies one of the secluded, sun drenched, terraces close to the house. The property offers total peace with no neighbours overlooking, and no noise or light pollution. Badminton, boules, table tennis, sunbathing and walks are provided in the extensive grounds. The local 12th century village of Cotignac offers a good variety of restaurants, bars, shops and a weekly market, as well as several recommended wine domains if you feel like sampling the local grape. The Gorge de Verdon, known as the Grand Canyon of France, 40 minutes away, with its enormous fresh water lake, offers an arena of water and land sports as well as spectacular views. St Tropez is just over an hour by car. There are quieter beaches an hour away and several golf courses.

Changeover day
Changeover day in July & August is usually Saturday, but this is flexible and can be arranged with the owners. The rest of the year is flexible. Arrival not before 4pm and departure not after 10am.

Outside
The private swimming pool is 12 metres by 5 metres and has a depth of 20 cms at the shallow end stepping down gradually to 80 cms then sloping gradually to 2mts at the deep end. It is surrounded by a sunbathing terrace, with several shaded areas for outside dining. There are plenty of outside dining chairs, dining tables and sunloungers, plus shady umbrellas, and benches scattered amongst the flower beds and trees. There is also a grass badminton court and boules pitch, and a table tennis table, plus several other pool side games for guest use. Surrounding the house are 5 acres of gardens, olive groves and woodland offering idyllic walks and secluded glades for relaxing and immersing in the Provencal perfumes and songs of nature.
Coast/Beach
By car the coast at St Tropez is 1 hour 10 mins drive. Ste Maxime is 1 hour away. Hyeres and the quieter beaches towards Toulon are 1 hour to 1 hour 20 mins away. All the beaches along the 'Var' coastline have soft, clean sand and a calm sea. Some are naturist, most offer restaurants, bars and beach loungers, others are more family orientated and some are very quiet.
Golf
The nearest 18 hole golf course is half an hour by car direction Brignoles. There are also several more, St Endriol at 40 minutes away direction Draguignan, Ste Maxime 1 hour away, Ste Maximim at 40 minutes away.
Special interest holidays
La Source is an ideal naturist holiday venue in the summer because of its secluded and private location. We rent the house all year. Please contact the owners for details of accommodation, availability and price out of season.
Travel
Nice and Marseille airports one and a half hours away by car. Toulon airport one hour 15 minutes. Good motorway connections nearby and train stations for TGV and coastal/local trains at 40 minutes away.
Car hire is essential.
Distances
The centre of the medieval village of Cotignac is 3 kms by country lanes. To the east, 6 kms, lies the bigger village of Salernes and Carces is equidistant to the south west. The scenic hilltop village of Tourtour is 25 minutes to the east and, by passing through the 'truffle town' of Aups, 1/2 an hour away, you reach the Gorge de Verdon and Lake St Croix. Lorgues and the larger town of Brignoles are also 1/2 an hour. Draguignan, the capital of the Var region, is 40 mins.

Cotignac has 2 banks with cash machines, 3 bakers, 2 small supermarkets, 2 butchers, several shops for local produce, home decor, clothes, jewellery, art galleries and electrical goods. There is also a chemist, 3 hairdressers and a beauticians.
It boasts a wide range of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets, several bars, a wine co-operative for local wine as well as 4 private wine domains. There is also a small museum, 2 open air theatres and a bi weekly market and a night market in the summer months.
Cotignac is famous for its high cliffs that provide a stunning backdrop to the cluster of traditional stone and stucco architecture. The abundance of water in the area creates a verdant landscape, even in the summer. Occupying one of the most attractive areas of the mediterranean hinterland, it commands magnificent views from the cliff tops and higher hills nearby, on one of which La Source resides, south to the coastal hills of Les Maures and north to the Haut Var mountains.
Booking notes
A deposit of 20% should be payed to confirm your required dates. Six weeks before arrival payment in full. We also require a security deposit which needs to be sent at the same time as the final payment. This is returned after your holiday, with any damages deducted.

About the owner
We have lived at La Source for the past 8 years and in the south of France for 20 years.Our love for this area of France with its special climate and awe inspiring scenery is reflected in our home. We take great care to make sure our guests have the best holiday imaginable as we have both owned hotels and restaurants.
We sometimes live in the cottage that is situated 1/2 km from La Source so are available for guidance on places to visit, the best restaurants, wines, etc and also to make sure the grounds, gardens and pool are in tip top condition for your stay.
Peter is an artist so you will find alot of his work adorning the walls. Gill is a collector of interesting objets and these too are dotted around the house.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We love the area for its beautiful and varied scenery, the ancient medieval villages and the huge variety of things to do and see. It is also convenient for airports, train and motorways. The busy city of Aix en Provence is an hour away, as is the coast with not only great beaches but also all the glamour of the riviera.
Our home is situated 3 kms from one of these lovely villages and is set in an area of typical Provencal countryside, rare to find these days. It is along a private country lane and boasts total privacy, no neighbours overlooking, no noise except the birds and cicadas and also no light pollution , so there are big skies ideal for shooting star spotting.
We can enjoy the quiet of the Provencal countryside, the quaintness of local villages and the glitz of the Cote D'Azur.

We offer a memorable experience at La Source. Total quiet and privacy in which to relax and unwind on the pool terrace, in the meadows or wandering the gardens. The pervading scents of lavender and thyme are a constant reminder that you are in true Provence.
A 40 minute walk will take you into the centre of the village and within a 1/2 hour by car you can visit chateaux for wine, sumptious restaurants, the lake and gorge of the haute Var, and also partake in any sporting activity you care to.
The pool is perfect for children being shallow at one end with wide steps, and also ideal for swimming lengths. It has a heating system by way of a cover so early and late season you can still enjoy a dip and the unique "Fat Mammas Gumbo Bar" means you can stay by the pool all day.
