La Brandille, our recently renovated 300 year old home is a stone farmhouse nestling into a hillside in 2 acres of private land with a private 9x5m swimming pool situated in a large garden backing onto woodland. The house sits on a spacious terrace overlooking a picturesque valley with our own meadow and a private garden with summerhouse leading off the terrace. The house has been modernised and redecorated to a high standard of comfort and design retaining many original features, with exposed old stone walls and beams. It is furnished throughout with antiques. All the rooms in the house have extensive views over the surrounding countryside. The house is 2km from Saint Severin village with its many facilities: an award winning baker, 2 butchers, a mini-market, grocers, pharmacy, post office, bank with cash machine, newsagent, cafe, restaurant and hotel. Thursday market in Place de Chateau. There is also a medical centre complete with doctor, dentist and district nurse if needed.

Bookings are from Saturday to Saturday. Arrival after 4pm. Departure by 10am.

Bedrooms: Very spacious master bedroom with Queen sized four poster bed, ample wardrobe space and a table and 2 chairs (for a relaxed breakfast perhaps?)
Second bedroom with 19th century antique iron double bed and hand painted furniture.
Attic with single bed.
Bathrooms: Large bathroom with bath, separate shower and WC. Laundry annexe.
New bathroom between the 2 bedrooms on 1st floor. Bath/shower. Separate WC.
Kitchen: Large main kitchen with dining for six leading to secondary kitchen that opens onto a spacious furnished, covered outside eating area. Gas cooker, fridge, dishwasher in main kitchen. Large fridge/freezer in 2nd kitchen. Gas BBQ.
Utility Room: Laundry annex with washing machine and tumble dryer.
Living Rooms: Salon with music centre, satellite TV and DVD player and comfortable seating for 6 opening onto veranda and spacious entrance hall. Separate wc in hallway.

Changeover clean. Midweek pool/garden maintenance. Bed linen and towels provided although we do ask you to bring pool towels.

We regret that La Brandille is not suitable for very young children.

Beach on the river Dronne at Aubeterre 10 min by car. River beach at Saint Aulaye 15 min by car. Lake beach at La Jemaye 30 min by car. Arcachon on the coast is about 2 hours away.

To reach our area by car: nearest ports: St. Malo approximately 5 hours away. Caen approximately 6 hours away. Airports:Angouleme approximately 40 min (new route by Ryanair). Bergerac approximately 1 hour. Bordeaux approximately 1 hour 45 min. Poitiers approximately 2 hours. Limoges approximately 2 hours. Nearest train station (Eurostar/TGV) Angouleme) 35 min. Further details
The countryside surrounding the house is covered with paths and lanes, perfect for walks and bike rides. There is tennis available at St. Severin, golf at Longeveau, and river canoeing , swimming, beach volley etc. at Aubeterre, St. Aulaye and at La Jemaye where there is a large lake with many amenities. The village of Aubeterre, designated as one of the most beautiful villages of France is 15 min car ride from here.It has a river beach with cafe,a much visited monolithic church and a famous ‘picture postcard’ square complete with plane trees with cafes under them and many craft boutiques. The nearest towns are Riberac and Chalais. Both have weekly markets. Angouleme and Perigeux are the nearest large towns, both very different in character with historic centres.

Other nearby towns worth visiting are Cognac, Bergerac, Jarnac, Brantome and Sarlat.Other sights worth a detour are the caves and the fortified chateaux in South Dordogne, the bassin d'Archacon ( a seawater lake and nature reserve) and the ‘Grande Dune’ that will make you think of Laurence of Arabia! Lovers of the ‘Noble Grape’ will want to see Saint Emilion and its fabulous vineyards. this magnificent town is just over an hours scenic car journey away.

And then there are the restaurants! Aubeterre has 8 eating places, most of the villages surrounding the house have informal bar restaurants, there are gastronomic establishments in Saint Romain, Aubeterre, Chalais (in Talleyrand's castle) and Angouleme has dozens of first class restaurants. The area is renowned for its ducks, foie gras, walnuts and felt slippers! So many festivals of art, music, film, theatre, folk lore etc. take place in this area in the summer that the visitor is spoilt for choice. Booking notes
25% deposit required to confirm booking. Balance payable 6 weeks before arrival date. We require a £150 breakages and cleaning deposit payable with balance payment. Refund 7 days after return home subject to damages.
