Notes on accommodation
Each bedroom has tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryers. A safety gate is installed in the family suite. Travel cot and highchair are available on request. In offering evening meals we aim to provide a fine dining experience for the family and this is validated by guests' feedback. A set meal can be provided with 24 hrs notice that consists of locally sourced fresh produce, where possible from our own garden. We also aim to be flexible and can arrange meals for parents after the children go to bed. A typical meal would consist of: Homemade soup or cheese souffle, slow cooked leg of lamb with roast garden vegetables, followed by homemade profiteroles with hot chocolate sauce plus coffee or tea. A complimentary bottle of wine or Normandy cider is also provided. We happily cater for vegetarians and are sympathetic to the palates of younger and more difficult diners. Price 22 euros per adult, half price for children under 12.
Outside
The house is set in an acre of land which the owners are currently landscaping. This includes the remains of an old bread oven which formerly belonged to the hamlet. There is a small orchard and several flower beds. Outside of the house is a terrace and large pergola with chairs, table and sun loungers for guest use or alfresco dining. The enclosed garden is south facing with wide views of open countryside. A gravelled drive on both sides of the house provides ample parking. Many of our guests and visitors comment upon the quiet and peacefulness of the area which enables them to unwind quickly after a long journey. Children usually prefer to recover from travelling by making use of our trampoline and swings. Visit our website via the link below to find out more, read guests' comments and browse through the photo gallery.
Coast/Beach
The network of major roads provides access to a number of coastal destinations. The D Day landing beaches, Granville, Mont Saint Michel and the Brittany coast are approximately an hour's drive away. Granville is a classy, traditional holiday resort, reminiscent of La Belle Epoque, with excellent beaches and Mont Saint Michel is the most visited destination in France. Exploration further west is rewarded by sight of the rugged Brittany coast.
Golf
There are 15 golf courses within easy reach which accept guest membership.
Special interest holidays
Alan, your host, is a qualified teacher and historian, experienced in providing tours of the D Day beaches and areas liberated by the allies. Details and costs of tour packages are available on request. St Vigor des Monts stood in the path of the US 29th Division that landed at Omaha Beach on 6 June 1944. Research on US military documents shows that the 3rd Battallion of the 115th infantry regiment actually marched past our front gate at the beginning of August 1944.
Much has been written of the difficulties faced by the tanks and infantry pushing south through the sunken lanes and hedges of the Normandy bocage, clearing the occupying troops from towns and villages. Visitors will discover that the countryside has changed little since then.
Assistance may also be provided for visitors seeking to locate particular battlefields, war graves or other places of personal interest.
For guests interested more in walking than history we can provide details of excellent local routes.

Further details
In addition to providing an overnight stay, we welcome and encourage guests looking to spend some time in the region and can provide suggestions on activities and destinations.
The house has become particularly popular with American families keen to explore the areas liberated in 1944. Because of his detailed local knowledge, Alan is able to introduce guests to places that are not usually contained in the guidebooks.
The nearest town, Villedieu-les-Poeles, famous for its copper ware is less than 15 minutes' drive away. Villedieu is full of character and is a wonderful place to explore, especially on Tuesdays and Fridays when a local market takes place. In additional to rural pursuits, this part of Normandy boasts a wide range of activities for all ages that include viaduct bungee jumping, canoeing and aqua parks as well as quieter pursuits such as zoos and museums.
Geocaching has recently become a very popular family activity in the area and there is plenty of opportunity to seek out and discover these elusive treasures. The nearest cache is in the woods surrounding St Vigor itself.
The local countryside and woodland provides excellent opportunities for walking, bird watching and picnics. Alternatively you may wish to relax on the terrace with a good book or a bottle of wine. We have a good collection of books, maps and other materials which are at your disposal. Alan and Carol welcome international guests. Nous pouvons parler Francais und ein wenig Deutsch.

Grainne O'M, Co Wexford: The kind of chambre d'hote one dreams of but never quite expects to find. The most genial of hosts who looked after our every need and food worthy of a top class restaurant.
Bob McA (84 year old veteran of General Patton's army): You treated us like Royalty. How blessed I am to make the unforgettable tour of Normandy with you folks.
Tom Gale & family, Indiana: To say that you provided us with excellent hospitality would be an understatement. We felt like family after being in your company just one day. Hospitality seems to be your gift, as is teaching. Carol, your meals are amazing.
Nicky and Simon Crabtree: After 2 weeks camping in France with children of 5,3 and 1 we stayed here and found it stress-free and idyllic-a real home from home. Our hosts were very considerate and the children loved it.
John & Angela, Muswell Hill: Beautiful, peaceful exterior, tasteful and thoughtful inside. The perfect place to relax with two travel-weary children.
