Outside
We have a wealth of bird life visiting our feeding stations and are often lucky enough to see red squirrels, little owls, deer and buzzards close to the barn. Our guests have a choice of seating areas in the garden to relax, drink a glass of wine or watch the birds.
Coast/Beach
The beautiful Lac Pardoux is just 20 minutes away and features three wonderful sandy beaches each surrounded by forest. All are very family friendly with life guards on duty in peak season and designated swimming areas. Sailing, water skiing, pedalos and doughnuts are all available to enjoy.
Golf
We have a stunning nine hole golf course just 20 minutes away with a driving range and three 18 hole courses within an hours drive of the barn.
Travel
Our nearest airport is Limoges, flights from the UK by Ryanair and Flybe. We are just 20 minutes from the airport which has a wealth of car hire facilities or we can collect you by arrangement. We recommend the hire of a car to make the most of this beautiful area. We are about 6 hours driving time from the channel ports so if you are travelling further south to the Mediterranean we are ideally situated for an overnight break.
Distances
The lively cosmopolitan city of Limoges is only a 25 minute drive away, it has an indoor market, cathedral and porcelain outlets for which the city is famous for.
The tranquil Monts de Blond are seven miles away and offer miles of wonderful marked footpaths and cycle routes.
The charming ancient town of Montmorrillon on the banks of the Gartempe river is less than an hour away.
Further details
For a really fun family day out you can go on the Velo rail located in the picturesque town of Confolens. This runs on an ancient railway line in the Charente-Limousine and each 'carriage' takes up to five people comfortably. Whilst two of you power the carriage by cycling the rest of you can sit back and enjoy the beautiful countryside. All five of you can take turn cycling and after a welcome refreshment break your carriage gets turned round and you cycle back to the start point.
The small town of Oradour Sur Glane is perhaps the most painful symbol to the French of the German atrocities of the Second World war. On the 10 June 1944, just a few days after D-Day almost all of the occupants were slaughtered by the Germans. The ruined village and memorial museum offer a fascinating insight into the terrors of that day.

Owner profile
About the owner
We bought our barn and cottage in this special little part of France in 2003 and spent lots of "holidays" over here in the cottage doing it up. In January 2007 the conversion of the barn started, much to our great excitement, and when it was finished in the spring of 2008 we moved in and started our full time life in France. This is our third year of running the B&B and we love meeting new people and making them comfortable and relaxed. Paul loves cooking and enjoys serving up vegetarian and fish dishes to our guests. He is also a keen gardener and has turned a wilderness into a lovely garden although it is still a work in progress. Juley walks to the village every morning to buy fresh croissants and bread for our guests whilst listening to The Archers!
Year purchased: 2003
Why the owner chose a guest house in this location
We love the peace and quiet of the area and the wealth of bird life that comes to our bird table and feeders. The locals are very friendly and we are active members of both the badminton and country dance groups which helps with our French. The wealth of footpaths are ideal for walking, running and cycling in the beautiful countryside making it a wonderful place to call home.
Unique benefits of the property
Although it feels like we are in the middle of nowhere we are in fact only 20 minutes from a large lake, the Monts de Blond, Bellac, Limoges and the airport. So we have the best of both worlds. With a good knowledge of what the area can offer visitors we can offer tips and ideas for an enjoyable holiday. Having gone through the process of buying a French property and living here we can provide an insight into the buying and living process for any house hunters. Not only are we busy with holiday makers and house hunters a lot of our guests are on their way to the south of France or Spain and find we are very conveniently located for an overnight stop on their journey south.
