Situated in the Charente region of France, yet close to the border of the Dordogne and Haute-Vienne, our beautifully restored home offers all the modern facilities yet retains many character features. Surrounded by gently rolling hills and sunflower fields, La Tourterie makes an ideal base for walking, mountain biking, horse riding, wine tasting, canoeing, fishing, golfing and site seeing. There is a spacious lounge and dining area with woodburner. The house is set in its own grounds with large patio, private pool and well established garden. La Tourterie is a tiny hamlet 15 minutes walk from the quiet village of Montemboeuf where you will find all the essentials you will need. We are only 15 minutes drive from the pretty town of La Rochfoucauld with its imposing chateau and full range of shops, bars and restaurants. The nearby leisure lake at Lavaud offers scenic picnic sites, sandy beaches, swimming, sailing, mountain biking and has a fantastic adventure park for the children.

Changeover day
Saturday arrival after 4pm and Saturday departure before 10am. Out of season long term lets and long weekend lets are available and check in and out will be more flexible.

Bedding and bed linen is included. Bath towels are charged at 5 euros extra per person, and pool towels charged at 5 euros extra per person. Property is cleaned on changeover day and should be left in a clean condition as found.

Notes on accommodation
For winter lets we have radiators in all rooms and wood burners in the lounge and kitchen.

Outside
Large established garden with private patio and barbecue facilities. Garden furniture includes tables and chairs and sun loungers around the private 10m x 5m pool.
Occasional appearances put in by our rabbits, chickens and cats!

Coast/Beach
Coast is 2 hours drive to La Rochelle.

Golf
10km away in Rouzede there is a superb 18 hole golf course. The is also a course 30 minutes drive away at St Junien, 1 in Angouleme (35 minutes drive), 2 in Limoges (45 minutes drive) and one in the stunning area of Cognac around 1 hours drive.

Travel
Ryanair fly from Liverpool, Stansted, East Midlands and Southampton to Limoges (45 mins drive). Also from Stansted to Angouleme (30 mins drive), Poitiers airport (1.5 hours) and Bergerac (2 hours).
BMI Baby fly from Manchester and East Midlands to Bordeaux which is 1 hour 45 minutes drive. Various other airlines also fly to Bordeaux. There is a TGV from Paris to Angouleme which takes 2.5 hours. Angouleme is 40 minutes drive. The closest ferry port is St Malo which is 5-6 hours drive.

Distances
Montemboeuf is 15 minutes walk. La Rochfaucald with its chateau and full range of bars and restaurants is 15 minutes drive. The town of Rocherchouart is about 25 minutes drive and has an imposing chateau. Piegut has a famous Wednesday market and is 25 minutes drive into the Dordogne and the stunning town of Brantome is a further 25 minutes. Cognac is around 1 hour. The lakes of Haute Charente are around 15 minutes drive, with swimming, beaches, sailing, adventure park and mountain bike routes.

Further details
Local shops in Montemboeuf, 2 bars, a bank and post office. Two fantastic restaurants each about 10 minutes drive away and a selection of restaurants and supermarkets in Montbron and La Rochfaucald, each 15 minutes drive. There are tours around the distilleries in Cognac, golf, nautical activities at the lakes and a fantastic shopping centre at Angouleme about 40 minutes drive with its ramparts and winding mediaeval streets, vast array of bars and superb restaurants and historic buildings.Also explore Nautilus, a large swimming and leisure complex in Angouleme. The Charente has one of the richest displays of Romanesque art with all variations represented and a top quality programme of summer festivals and markets.

Booking forms will be sent out to the clients and the price is for the property regardless of how many people stay. There will be a 30% deposit in £ sterling payable into our English bank account, with the remainder due 8 weeks before arrival along with a breakage cheque of £150 which will be refundable upon return after the property has been inspected.

About the owner
One of our great passions is to travel, and over the past 15 years have spent a great deal of time exploring the world. Toby was an electrical engineer and i was an account manager within the printing/repro industry. We spent 5 months travelling in Africa before returning to England and finally deciding to move away from the UK to do something which would enable us to do more travelling. We did a comprehensive recce throughout France in our trustee VW combie van, enabling us get a feel for the different departments and ended up buying in the Charente. We have renovated the entire place ourselves and now after 5 years hard labour are finally going to make our first long haul trip to India in January. We are great animal lovers and have three adorable cats, two English and one French.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
The Charente is full of culture and a great many things for people to see and do. There are a lot of activities for children on the doorstep and we are close to the wonderful city of Angouleme. The countryside around us is stunning making a perfect destination for cycling and walking with the Lakes of Haute Charente, with its sandy beaches just 15 minutes away. We are surrounded by stunning chateaux and Cognac is less than an hour away. We are situated in a small hamlet but have the village of Montemboeuf with its shops and bars just 1.5 km away. We are very lucky in that we have an abundance of good restaurants in the area and the lovely towns of Montbron and La Rochefoucauld with its imposing chateau and easy 15 minutes drive.

We are surrounded by wonderful countryside made for walking and cycling which can be done from the doorstep. The grounds of the house are spacious and the pool set back from the house catching the sun throughout the day. We are walking distance from the nearest village and only 15 minutes drive from two lovely market towns. The property is spacious with a huge attic space with 2 large bedrooms and bathroom which the children adore as its almost like having their own studio. The property has a large dining kitchen and huge lounge dining area so plenty of room for people to space out, which leads to large private patio with BBQ. We offer bikes for the use of our guests.
