The house is ideally located in its own grounds (over two acres) with a woodland and meadow, views overlooking the river. Access to local walks. Bikes and canoes can be hired nearby for exploring the beautiful countryside. Locally available licence enables fishing on the river Creuse within easy access of the house. The neighbouring town of Argenton-sur-creuse has the delights of a Roman amphitheatre, old water mills and beautiful old buildings. The village of Gargilesse is within easy reach, where George Sands lived and worked with studios selling local art and several good restaurants.
Trains to Paris and Limoges run from nearby Argenton-sur-creuse.

Notes on accommodation
Pool within close proximity to the house with both shade and sunshine.
Security fencing and gate provided. Cover for pool. No smoking within the house. Central heating included for March, April and October. Open fire available all year.

Accessibility
There are a number of steps and stairs within and around the property, therefore it may not be suitable for all disabilities and young children (please discuss this with us for further information).

Outside
Large (10m x 4m) heated, outside private pool for exclusive use of guests. Sun terrace with loungers and parasols. Table and chairs within easy sight of pool
for supervision. Beautiful views of the river
The front garden has a large outside table with 8 chairs for alfresco dining.
Private driveway leads to quiet secluded gardens and field overlooking the river, suitable for outside games.
Fishing available in the river with a licence (easily obtained locally).

Coast/Beach
There are a series of freshwater lakes with sporting facilities and beaches, less than an hours drive away, for example Eguzon with its lake supporting water sports (jet skis pedaloes sailing etc) and also a beach. Canoeing is popular on the River Creuse and fishing takes place on the river close to the house.

Special interest holidays
the river creuse offers excellent fishing, you need to provide your own equipment. A licence can be obtained locally or prior to arrival, for individual days or for longer periods, covering different areas. Please ask for further details

Travel
Limoges is the closest and is less than an hours drive from the house. It is served by Ryanair, Flybe and BMI flights and has a car hire centre at the airport. Alternatively there is Tours (Val de Loire and Poitiers airports (both Ryanair) about one and a half hours away
Driving from the channel ports is easily achieveable in a day with the actual driving time about 6 hours. A car is recommended to explore the beautiful area and for ease of travel.

Distances
The nearest village is a short walk or 3 minutes in the car. There is a boulangerie for the all important fresh hot bread croissants etc and a butchers shop. There is a bar/cafe and the post office. Walking is well organised in the region with each village having maps with routes. Just follow the signs. The house is also on the Route de Compostelle. Places to visit are in abundance with Chateaux eg Sarzay and Guillaume (birthplace of Eleanor of Aquitaine wife of Henry 2nd.) Argenton is 4 miles

Further details
Excellent restaurants are close with affordable menus (particularly lunch). These are available in Argenton or in the surrouinding villages. Our favourite is the Petit Roy.Supermarket (Carrefour) on the road to Argenton, where there are banks, cafes, tourist information etc.
Main line train services to Paris and Limoges from Argenton. Paris (two and a half hours) is possible for the day! Limoges is a town full of character and charm being famous for porcelain. Bourges and Issoudun are also good places to visit.
Discreet owners may on occasions stay in an adjoining annex [usually just overnight to facilitate changeovers].

Just wanted to let you know we all had an absolutely fabulous week at your house. It had everything we needed. The setting was perfect- so peaceful and quiet. The kids loved playing in the garden and pool. A wonderful week- thank you very much.
We went on canoe's at Le Blanc, went to Lac du Chambon for the day, visited the zoo at Beauval and generally chilled out. Had some lovely meals out- the best of which was The Petit Roy. Lovely!

At last the dust has settled and I have found time to write and thank you for letting us stay at your lovely French House! We had the best time yet again and did not want to go home.

We very much enjoyed our stay and to discover a different region, the walking we found particularly enjoyable. The birdsong was amazing and we were very thrilled to see Kingfishers on the river

House swap
Always worth asking us, as we have done this before, we have no idea specifically where we would like to go so surprise us, especially if you allow dogs.

About the owner
We live in Kent and have 2 properties for rent one in France (FR4354) and one in the Lake District (E945). We have two grown up children and two dogs. We love travelling and exploring new places, we became involved in holiday homes because of our own love for self catering accommodation and to try to provide that little bit extra or bit different. Each year we try to improve the houses as much for our benefit as for our guests, as we spend a lot of time in both houses.
