Maison du Ruisseau is "a real get away from it all location" set in the heart of the Charente. Originally a farmhouse built in 1838, it has been tastefully and lovingly restored maintaining many of the character features of the region and equipped to the highest standard. The 3 gites may be rented individually or as one unit. It is set within a very pretty walled garden with complete privacy. Each property has its own individual style complete with its own terrace. The swimming pool is to the rear of the property and is fitted with a safety alarm in accordance with French law. The Charente is a beautiful unspoilt area of France, set in the heart of the Cognac vineyard region. It is an excellent location to access many of the local towns and surrounding areas. The landscape is rich and varied with acres of sunflowers and vines.Cognac is a 30 min. drive where you can visit many of the famous distilleries. Or, the picturesque vineyards of St Emillion which are a pleasant hours drive away.

Notes on prices
Prices are per property per week. £100 reduction for two week bookings. Changeover day is Saturday. Rental charges are totally inclusive of all outgoings. Refundable breakages deposit of £200 required with the final balance of payment, to be refunded within two weeks of your departure (subject to satisfactory property inspection). A deposit of 25% is to be sent with the completed booking form in order to confirm a booking. The balance of 75% is to be paid 8 weeks before the start of the holiday.
Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday. Arrival is 4pm. Departure time is 10am. Out of high season we are happy to negotiate arrival and departure times upon booking.
Notes on accommodation
Our gites are family friendly where you can be sure of first class hospitality and a warm welcome from the owners who strive to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible. A welcome pack is included on arrival. All towels, bedlinen and pool towels towels are provided. Access to Internet is provided through site-wide Wi-Fi. A full property clean at the end of your stay is included in the price. Should you wish to have a mid-stay clean please let us know and we can provide further details. Bikes are available and table tennis, with an area for ball games. Our gites are fully central heated and are strictly non-smoking. There is room in the two larger properties for a child's cot (2 which we can provide) and we can also provide a high chair if necessary.
Accessibility
Maison du Ruisseau is surrounded by a beautiful stone wall for your privacy. It contains a very pretty cottage garden which is also completely private, but benefits from an orchard and field overlooking the countryside. The swimming pool to the rear of the property is accessed through large gates and up five steps.The property is not suitable for those with wheelchairs. Sorry no dogs as the owners have two cats.
The gites have their own parking area.
Outside
The swimming pool is 9 x 5m complete with security alarm. The property provides patio tables and chairs for all the gites they are located on the terrace and in the garden to ensure sun all day and early evening, so its ideal for eating breakfast, lunch and dinner outside. Sun loungers and umbrellas are also provided for the garden and the pool area. Each of the gites is equipped with a barbecue and tools for alfresco dining.
Coast/Beach
The coast/beach of Royan is 55 mins away. For those that might want to travel a little further, La Rochelle is 2 hours away. A car is essential. There are some very pretty coastal beaches on the Gironde estuary about 40 minutes away eg. Talmont, Mechers. A small manmade beach recently contructed at Chateauneuf about 5mins away. St Emilion set in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region a must to see. Picturesque plenty of places to eat and to sample the wines on offer. Cognac and its distilleries.
Golf
Golf du Cognac: Located on the banks of the River Charente between Cognac and Jarnac, this parkland course is the work of designer Jean Garaialde. Golf International de la Preze: 18 Hole Golf Course located in 65 hectares of parkland near Rouzede, close to La Rochefoucauld. Affiliated to the French Golfing Federation. Open all year round. Individual or group lessons from English Professional Matt Howard.
Golf Club de l'Hirondelle: 18 holes, 5346 m, Par 70, slope 139. Located 4 kms south of Angouleme, the golf course has recently been totally redesigned. It covers an area of 35 hectares in St.Martin Woods. This is a wooded course with fairways that demand good technique.
Travel
Bordeaux Airport 50 min. Poitiers Airport 1 hour 20 mins. Bergerac Airport 2 hours. La Rochelle Airport 2 hours. From the coast Calais 7 hours (an overnight stay is worthwhile) St Malo 4 hours. Caen 5 hours.
A car is essential. The area is well served by low cost airlines:Ryanair fly to Poitiers, La Rochelle and Bergerac ; Flybe serve Bordeaux, La Rochelle and Bergerac; Easyjet serves Bordeaux and La Rochelle and Aer Lingus serves Bordeaux.
Distances
Maison du Ruisseau is ideally situated for access to many places if travelling both North or South. We are just 30 minutes drive from Cognac where you can visit the famous Hennessy factory and taste the fine wines and cognac. Angouleme famous for its cartoon festival is 25 minutes away and Bordeaux and the Arcachon coast is an hour away. St Emillion famous for its wine tasting is a place not to be missed and is to be found lying within some of the grandest Chateaux of the Bordeaux wine region.
Further details
There is access to many large supermarkets within 10 mins of Maison du Ruisseau. Chateauneuf sur Charente and Barbezieux St Hilaire are the closest and both have banks, bars, chemists, restaurants and doctors/hospitals, all with weekly outdoor markets. Jonzac is just 15 minutes drive away where there is a large leisure complex with indoor and outdoor swimming, gym, solarium and spa. This pretty village has a market on Fridays and there are plenty of bars and restaurants to explore.

This is by far the best gîte I have ever seen! Very well equipped with everything for the family! We have had three generations staying in three different parts and it has been fantastic. Christine and Leslie are excellent hosts and have made us feel at home! The little extra touches such as the ‘welcome pack’ etc. were far beyond what I could have expected! About the owner
We have always loved coming to France for our holidays, in fact we have been visiting France with our children for the last 25 years. We often talked about working together, quality of life and a nice place to live. As our youngest left for university we decided to take the plunge and find a property to turn into gîtes. We purchased Maison du Ruisseau in June 2006 and here we are in our third season. It is very satisfying but also hard work. We have achieved much since we arrived. Our clients to date have been superb and and we strive to make the experience of your holiday one of the best you will remember, with our attention to detail, the warm welcome and our knowledge of the area in which we live. Beautiful places to visit enhance the style of living in this fresh and unspoilt area.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We fell in love with this very unspoilt area of SW France in August 2005; although we had stayed in many other areas in France over the years, we had never visited the Charente. With its undulating countryside of woodlands, fields of sunflowers and row upon row of Cognac vines plus its very clement weather in all seasons, we finally purchased a property in Aug 2006. It is ideally situated for Bordeaux, Poitiers and Limoges airports; a beautiful relaxing drive from St Malo and Caen but also accessible from the channel ports. It is set on the Charente river with many picturesque villages dating back to medieval times, many with churches built in the thirteenth century - Cognac, Jarnac, Jonzac to name but a few - and the famous wines of St Emilion and Bordeaux are a short drive away.
