A Traditional Touraine Cottage Surrounded By the Most Famous Of the French Chateaux
The Region well known to be a 'Foodie Paradise' Country Markets Abound
Sleeps 2 (1 Bedrooms)

‘The Little House’ which sleeps 2 people is found amongst the Chateaux of the Loire Valley, near Chenonceau, in an idyllic rural setting. The house is owned by Christopher and Heather Cowdy who specialise in antique French beds, to be their visitors' house close to their own 17th Century farmhouse. The region is a foodie paradise! We are less than a mile from the local village where there is a wonderful boulangerie. We are surrounded by local markets and restaurants. Food is a big passion in this area. Tours is our nearest airport with Poiters being a close second choice. For those travelling from the Channel Ports there are now great autoroute connections to within about 15km of Orbigny. We are close enough to Paris for the Parisians to have houses here; as well as being rural, the area is at the same time vibrant with smart shops and restaurants. It is very much alive. We operate a come when you like - go when you like booking system rather than the normal Sat to Sat changeovers!

| Bathrooms: | Upstairs there is a WC and wash hand basin. Downstairs is a shower room and WC. |
| Kitchen: | A thoroughly modern, sharp, well-equipped kitchen with 'fridge, dishwasher, cooker and microwave merges into the living room with open fire place and old oak beams. |
| Utility Room: | Clothes washing machine. |

| Other: | Being the Loire Valley, especially in summer, outside has got to be our 'other room'. There is a large wooden table with comfortable teak chairs and also a marble table under the cherry trees for times when the weather is just too hot. |
| Cleaning/towels/ linen/maid service: |
All linen and towels are included. |
Notes on accommodation
We have made it ‘our house’ for our own visitors and friends as distinct from a ‘letting’ property. To this end it has been generously furnished with antiques and a little fantasy. We, Christopher and Heather are especially interested in food, France and antiques; I think in that order, and the Little House reflects this. You will find cookery books, wine guides and maps. There is a fireplace which we hope you will use if you like the idea (logs will be extra) but of course there is heating if necessary. We are happy to accept pets and have no problems with guests wanting to smoke. We just want people to come and enjoy, as much as we do, what this lovely area has to offer.

Accessibility
Most unfortunately ‘The Little House’ is not suitable for people who have problems with steps or stairs. It is an old property and there is nothing we can do about it. The Master bedroom upstairs has the original clay tiles set into the daube and wattle called 'Torchis' and over the years the floor has become quaintly undulating. There is a beam about 4" high stretching across the centre of the floor. If our visitors prefer to sleep downstairs in our 2 antique beds, that is just fine.
Outside
There is a large garden with cherry trees. The cherries are ready for eating at the end of May and our guests can use them to make a traditional cherry liqueur or cherry cake even if they wish. We then have lots of little golden mirabelle plums which are great for Jam and French Plum Tarts. Then in August, birds willing, we have 7 different varieties of grapes for eating. There are of course large parasols, a barbecue and a croquet set. A large wooden table for outdoor eating with solid comfortable teak chairs for 6 people.
Travel
There are very good cheap air connections from Stansted to Tours (45 minutes) from Les Assis; or Poiters (60 minutes) from Les Assis. There are good Autoroute connections from the coast to within 20km of Orbigny. We are 292 miles from the port of Cherbourg.
Distances
The village of Orbigny is less than a mile; many of our guests walk down for the bread. We are in the absolute centre of the most famous of the Chateaux; for example the Big Four, Chenonceau, Chambord, Cheverny and Chaumont are all within 20 to 40 minutes away. Many smaller more intimate Chateaux are on our doorstep. Swimming pools, Country Markets, 'Smart' Shops and the famous Vineyards of Touraine are all around us. Amidst all this Les Assis can also be a place of tranquility if you wish.
Further details
Because we have been here for 20 years we can rely on great local help in any emergency. Be it doctor, dentist, garage etc. There never seems to be a problem that can not be quickly and efficently solved. All possible amenities are within about a 12 mile radius. Speciality shops, supermarkets, banks, doctors, swimming pools, restaurants, vineyards.

19/12/09 Dear Heather and Christopher. My apologies for not writing sooner to you, but times have been rather hectic since we arrived back in Australia.
We loved your petite maison in Les Asis so much. You have created a little gem there and so convenient to everything in the Loire Valley. It is a very special place to which we'll return again. The kitched was excellently stocked with all the utensils and facilities a home cook such as I need.I cooked my gluten free bread and the oven works so well. The bed was great. The open fire worked well. in short PERFECT. We will recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the Loire Valley. Thank you sharing this wonderful property with us. R.A.
