The property is situated at the top of the pretty village of Lesparrou. There are several walks on the door step, along the river in both directions and up over the hill behind the property. Ideal for people who love the outdoors, or who want to use the cottage as a quiet base to discover the region with its Cathar castles, historic villages and more. Ideal region to discover on foot, on your bike or in winter, discover the different ski slopes that are within a 1hr drive. Bikes can be hired locally and dropped at the cottage.

Changeover day
Changeover day is flexible. Arrival after 3pm and departure before 10am, but can be flexible (please contact us for your specific questions!).

Outside
The cottage has a large wooden bench which holds fire wood and a south facing decked area with views of the Pyrenees and all day sun. There are 2 comfortable outside chairs and a small outdoor table and chairs for eating outside watching the sun set over the magestic mountains.
Coast/Beach
Lac Montbel is a large lake about 10 mins drive away, with a nice sandy beach at Regate and a restaurant. In summer, you can also hire pedal boats and canoes. Puivert Lake is only a 10 min drive with a safe beach for young children and lovely lake side restaurant. In July and August there is a weekly night market every wednesday. The Mediterranean is only 1½ hour by car. 2 minutes walk from the house is a clear flowing river with great swimming holes.
Skiing
Les Monts d'Olmes is only 30 mins away, a perfect little resort for beginners and families. Ax-les-Thermes is a bigger ski resort, only 45 mins by car.
Travel
Carcassonne airport at 1 hour. Perpignan and Toulouse airport at 1½ hour.
Distances
Nice places to visit in the area are Mirepoix 20 mins. Foix 30 mins. Cathar castles (eg Montsegur at 20 mins). There are many things to see and do in the area, please check the folder provided in the house.
Further details
There are several walks on the door step, along the river in both directions and up over the hill behind the property. There are hiking maps in the house which can be used. There are no shops in the village, but a bakers van stops in the square next to the property every day except Monday between 8.30 and 9 am( you will hear it, they beep the horn).And a butchers van on Weds. Lavelanet town is only 10 mins away and has a Carrefour and SuperU supermarket, and some boutiques and other shops. Here, you can also find banks, garages, pharmacies, doctors and such. La Bastide sur L'Hers is 3.5km away and has a butchers, 2 small shops(which also sell bread), play park, open air pool, a bar, restaurant and even hairdressers. There are also several Fetes and night markets through out the summer in the surrounding villages.
