‘La Mancellière’ is a beautiful 17th century farmhouse in the picturesque Manche region of Lower Normandy, close to the Loire and Brittany borders. The house has been restored to a very high standard and is divided into 2 spacious, self-contained gites: the Farmhouse and the Villa. Both gites have lots of original features including a huge wood-burning inglenook fireplace in the Farmhouse, polished chestnut floors and exposed oak beams. La Mancellière is surrounded by rolling countryside and is set amid two acres of private land with its own orchard, paddock and landscaped gardens for you to enjoy. We are open all year round for self-catering holidays and short breaks and we can accommodate up to 14 people in the Farmhouse and 6 people in the Villa, including babies. However, we cater for all parties, no matter how small.

Changeover day
Our week runs from Saturday to Saturday although we try to be flexible. This will depend on existing bookings. In order for us to prepare the property for your stay, we kindly ask that you do not arrive before 4pm and check out before 10am.

The Villa (Sleeps 2 - 6)

| The villa sleeps from 2 to 6 people and has a light, airy, Mediterranean feel. The bedrooms are bright, sunny and beautifully decorated with local artisanal furniture. The master bedroom has a lovely oak sleigh bed and double doors leading out to the front of the property. The twin room has 2 single beds and a view out to the gardens at the rear of the house. We have a double pull-out sofa bed in the main living area and a modern shower room with heated towel rail. The living area and kitchen are open-plan, spacious and very comfortable. Here you can find a large range cooker and fully equipped kitchen with microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher and coffee maker. Notes on accommodation
The gites are spacious and private with plenty of room for large groups and are ideal for families. The grounds are secure and set well back from any roads. For smaller groups wishing to rent the Farmhouse, we can close off certain bedrooms to keep the price cheaper for you. High-speed wireless broadband is available, please ask for more details.
Outside
La Mancelliere is set in 2 acres of private land with landscaped gardens, an orchard and a paddock with four friendly sheep. The grounds are perfect for sunbathing or enjoying a picnic and we have BBQs for our guests with plenty of outdoor furniture. We also have bats and balls, footballs, boules, frisbees and swings and slides to entertain the kids. There are free tennis courts in the local village and a large swimming complex nearby.
Coast/Beach
We are 40 minutes from Brittany's spectacular Emerald Coast with golden sandy beaches and turquoise seas. Seafood lovers can enjoy world-renowned scallops, oysters, fish and mussels at port towns such as Cancale, which have fabulous views of the coastline. Most local beaches are quiet, secluded and spotlessly clean with some larger beaches offering kite surfing, sand yachting and excellent surfing.
Golf
Normandy is home to 22 major golf courses, many of them ranked among the best in the world. The closest clubs to the property are the 18-hole, Yves Bureau-designed course at Garcelles, just south of Caen; a beautiful 6 kilometre course on a 100 acre site at Clecy; the windswept coastal course at Coutainville and Granville golf club, the only true links course in France just north of Granville. There are also many excellent courses to master in nearby Brittany and the Loire.
Travel
La Mancellière is within easy reach of the ports of Caen, St. Malo, Cherbourg, Le Havre and the airports of Dinard and Rennes. Our property is at the end of a quiet country lane just off the N176 between Avranches and Domfront. We are 90 minutes from Caen, 70 minutes from St. Malo and 2 ½ hours from Cherbourg. Rennes and Dinard airports are just 60 mins away.
A car is recommended for your holiday and car hire is available at all ports and airports.
Distances
La Mancellière is a 5 minute walk from the pretty village of Buais and a 10 minute drive from the bustling market town of St. Hilaire du Harcouet. We are 40 minutes from the World Heritage site of Mont Saint Michel, Brittany's stunning beaches and the hill town of Mortain with its eerie white abbey and spectacular waterfalls. South of the property are the luxurious chateaux and wine regions of the Loire valley.
Further details
The local village of Buais has a traditional bakery and butcher’s shop, a bar/tabac with a tasty lunch menu and an excellent gourmet restaurant. St. Hilaire du Harcouet is the closest town and has the largest weekly market in Normandy every Wednesday. Here you can find three major supermarkets, many restaurants and bars and a large tourist office with English-speaking staff. The Manche region of Normandy is a fantastic place to enjoy outdoor pursuits and we have river-fishing, horse-riding, walking and cycling on our doorstep. There are 250 kilometres of Voies Vertes (Green Routes) in the region which are reserved solely for walkers, horses and horse-drawn vehicles. All tours are signposted and graded according to difficulty and maps and brochures are available from tourist offices. We also have an impressive 1,000 kilometres of dedicated cycle trails for all levels and abilities. Kids will love Champrepus zoo, Alligator Bay, Mortain's waterfalls and Bellefontaine's fairy-tale amusement park which are all less than 45 minutes from the property.
Booking notes
All prices are in UK Pounds and are for the property per week. All prices include towels, tea towels and quality bed linen. We take a 25% non-refundable deposit to secure the booking and the balance is due 8 weeks before arrival. Payment can be made by bank transfer or by cheque.
We also offer 20% discount when travelling with Brittany Ferries. Please ask us for more details.
