This south facing ground floor apartment in Les Contamines and opens onto a large expanse of child friendly communal gardens, with beautiful mountain views. This makes for a great place to escape with friends and family. Because the ski slopes and lifts are so close, it is possible to ski back almost back to door for refreshments and / or lunch rather than paying mountain restaurant prices. Contamines has great snow conditions for skiing and snowboarding, assisted not only by being at top of valley but because of the numerous snow cannons that ensure fresh snow every night during the ski season. The Hameaux du lay area is situated midway between the village and the outdoor Pontet leisure park that includes 8 tennis courts, two lakes for boating and solar warmed for swimming and an enviable adventure park for children. The mountains above also have many restaurants open summer and winter, with the lifts giving immediate access to beautiful scenery.

Refreshments and meals are also available.
Golf
There is a driving range at Le Pontet Leisure park, with 18 hole courses down the valley at nearby Megeve and Chamonix.
Skiing
There is a new 6 person ultra fast ski lift at Nante Rouge for the 2011 ski season. There are hundreds of snow cannons which ensure fresh daily snow on 3 of the red runs plus 2 of the blue runs on the Contamines side plus 3 of the red and 2 of the blue runs on the Haultlace side. This, along with its altitude, makes it far more snow assured. There is a ski locker and locked cycle store in the basement, on the floor below. Situated at the end of the valley at 1150 metres and the bottom of the gondola that swiftly ascend the snow laden mountain slopes at 1900 metres with maximum height being 2500 metres. The apartment is well placed to access the slopes on foot: no need to drive. Les Contamines' snow record is the envy of many resorts in the Alps. Because it is the top of the valley, has its own micro-climate with means it has a reliable and predictable snowfall, especially when many other resorts lower down the valley, such as St Gervais or Megeve, fail to deliver.
Special interest holidays
This is both a summer and winter resort. In summer, walkers flock to Contamines. Key to communal but secure cycle lockup in basement, one floor below. Further details
Les Contamines retains much of its unspoilt charm due to its relative small size and its not as commercialized like many of the other Alpine resorts. In the village itself, 10 minutes flat walk away by walking along the riverside path, there are restaurants, bakers and delicatessens, 2 supermarkets, several banks and ATMs, doctors and pharmacy. The is an informative Tourist/Mayors office in the village square that is willing and able to book hotels en route should these be required. In the summer, there is much to do besides walking along the tops of mountains, boating on one of the lakes on the valley floor or at 1400 metres or exploring the flora and fauna of the valley floor. There are also 8 tennis courts within walking distance at Pontet park. The tourist office is very active and even has a programme of events available online and not just in the peak summer and winter seasons. There are 2 washing machines at Pontet park campsite, which is situated just before the Pontet park gondola on the left. Park on the right in main car park as no room at campsite entrance. Washroom on the left just past the public telephone box. Cost 6 Euros a wash and 1 Euro per 10 minutes for the dryers.

Owner profile
About the owner
My wife and I live in Worcestershire and work within the NHS in Birmingham.
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
Cheap flights via Geneva, with quick access via motorway was crucial in our choice when identifying a suitable location. Purchased in 2007 with a view to encourage my three boys to learn French (and possibly Italian as it's so close) whilst also encouraging them to enjoy the outdoor lifestyle. This is an absolutely breathtakingly beautiful alpine area with a typical Savoyard village at its centre which is both unspoilt and pretty, with a weekly market on Tuesdays. It is well suited to families, especially in the summer months with Pontet leisure park being within easy walking distance. In summer the resort is also busy with walkers taking advantage of the numerous restaurants (many with overnight accommodation) that pepper the mountains.
Unique benefits of the property
What we really like is being on the ground floor opening onto largely flat communal lawns with no cars. All the children play out on here in the summer (cycling, football). This enables us to relax in the sun as its south facing. In the winter, we loved it as it's so close to the gondola that the kids can walk (no need to drive) and ski down to its base, so lunches can be taken cheaply at home. The is always space in the huge car park opposite. If our boys need additional excitement when they're older, Chamonix (high altitude skiing) is only half an hour away. In the summer, the far end of the car park converts to a tennis court with a raisable net to convert into a badminton court, basket/netball court and two table tennis courts. This is in addition to the 8 tennis courts in Pontet park.
