This beautifully renovated cottage, surrounded by farmland, is perfect for a relaxing holiday away from the hustle, bustle and pollution of modern day life. The hamlet was originally a monastery settlement, alas only the monastery farm now exists. A mobile shop comes regularly to the hamlet and there is an excellent bar/restaurant in the village of Verneuil Moustiers. The nearest general store, boulangerie, pharmacy and tabac are at Lussac les Eglises, 7km. We run the smallholding in an environmentally friendly fashion, reusing and recycling and aiming for self-sufficiency. Guests will be asked to separate their waste into rubbish, recycling and compost, using the bins provided by us. In the winter, when heating is required, the wood burner is preferred to the electric heaters. Wood for the burner can be purchase from us at a reasonable price.

About the owner
Hello we are Jill and Val. We bought our small holding in the Haute Vienne region of the Limousin 4 years ago. Our move to France was so that we could purchase a property with land all of which is increasingly expensive in the UK. We live an easygoing rural existence here in France away from the hustle and bustle of town living and try to be as self sufficient as possible. We grow all our own vegetables and fruit and keep poultry for eggs and meat. We have a recycling policy with things being re-used, composted or taken to local Eco Points. We are keen bicycle riders and walkers and fully utilize the local walking and riding routes in both the Haute Vienne and Vienne areas. We are happy to provide maps of all local walking routes to those visitors that are interested.

Year purchased: 2006

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We bought the property because we were looking for a rural location that allowed us the flexibility to do some renovation. The property has two houses one of which had already been tastefully renovated by the previous owners. We have since renovated the other house and barn and now use the first property as a gite. The property has 4 1/2 acres of land. One meadow is used for poultry, ducks, geese, chickens and the second meadow is used for sheep. We have used a smaller meadow area for a kitchen garden and fruit garden. In the summer the produce, plus eggs are sold to those using the gite. The rest of the produce is processed for winter use. The Haute Vienne were the property is situated has some of the cleanest air in Europe. This is due to there being no industrial pollution.

Unique benefits of the property
We are in a central position with easy access to all the Limousin Departments of Haute Vienne, Creuse and Corrèze. If you love nature then you will love the Limousin. It is known as Frances Lake District, it is a beautiful and unspoilt part of France, with its ever-changing landscape. You will find grazing sheep and Limousin cattle as well as market gardens and orchards full of cherries, apples and many other fruits. The rivers and lakes teem with fish and are home to a huge variety of flora and fauna. The Gite has its own garden so that you can sit out in the evening and appreciate the wonder of rural living. The skies at night are clear and full of stars. There is no light pollution to spoil this magical spectacle at night.
