Notes on accommodation
The apartment is on the tenth floor but within ten metres of the lifts, so is suitable for all.

Accessibility
The property and area is not really suitable for people with mobility problems. There are four lifts to the ground floor so waiting time is an unusual occurrence.

Outside
There is a small balcony which is very sunny during the day. It is very handy if you are a smoker as we politely insist that the apartment is non smoking.

Skiing
The property is in Les Arcs 2000, directly on the piste. There is a lift which runs at night time linking Les Arcs 2000 to the award winning resort of Les Arcs 1950 for greater choice of amenities.
This is within the massive 'Paradiski' domain which includes the resorts of Les Arcs 1600 and 1800, Villaroger, Peisey, Vallandry and all the La Plagne resorts via the 'Vanoise Express' cable car link.

Travel
Les Arcs is easily reached from the budget and charter airline destinations of Chambery, Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble and St Etienne. It is also easily reached by funicular (free with the liftpass) from the railhead of Bourg Saint Maurice, where Eurostar, TGV and Paris night trains terminate.

Distances
The commercial town of Bourg Saint Maurice is 25km distant by road, or approximately 30 minutes by free bus (navette) and funicular - which is free with your lift pass.
A weekly lift pass has validity for one day in all the main Savoie resorts (Val D'Isere/Tignes, Courchevel, Meribel) if you ask at the pass office when you purchase the pass. These resorts can be reached by road from Bourg.

Further details
Recommended ski hire - Equilibres - at the end of 'Place Basse' Sylvain & his staff are excellent and do speak English.

Guest comments
A typical but well maintained French ski-apartment. All resort facilities are nearby. Warm, good views from balcony, and a proper size bath! Ski in/out possible. Arc 1950 within easy reach. Clive Humphreys.

Have stayed in these apartments before, they are basic studios but saying that this has to be one of the best and has been refurbed with wooden floor and sofa beds and new kitchen. Great views, post boarding sun shine, lashings of hot water and ski in ski out. David Stewart.

Owner profile

About the owner
I confess to being a Francophile and really, really enjoy skiing - something that my partner and daughter have picked up and enjoy immensely too. Having this apartment has been so much of a hit we now have a property down in Bourg St Maurice and a Summer property in the Languedoc - our retirement plans are made! We are high on ease of use and having a good time, low on hassle. Our 'place' fits just fine.

Year purchased: 2004

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
I have enjoyed skiing for 28 years after a full winter working in Norway, skiing at weekends - 'catching the bug.' I travelled out 3 or four times a season during which time I skied most, if not all, the major domaines in Europe. In my opinion the best region in terms of quality and preparation of pistes in conjunction with the range of off piste avaiability are the Alps of the French Savoie. Of the resorts in the area, Les Arcs 2000 is a jewel. Not as fashionable as Val D'Isere or Courchevel... but slaughters Val for piste and Courchevel for off piste, them both for accessibility to the slopes and less crowded too - it's a winner. When Arc 1950 was undergoing construction adjacent to 2000 my mind was made up - the weak point of evening options is now addressed.

Unique benefits of the property
The apartment is truly ski out / in, with its own button lift to take you up into the main system. When my daughter was younger, the problem of forgetting things (ski school bib, sunglasses, pass, gloves etc.) was not an issue - 5 minutes and the situation was resolved. Accessibility is now handy for a different reason - we return at different times, there's no pressure to 'stay out!' Lunch on the balcony is very pleasant in the sun and a respite from restaurant prices... Evenings in 2000 and 1950 are very pleasant, with a range of bars and restaurants, 10 pin bowling, ice rink and a nightclub a short stroll from the apartment. Finally, The apres ski full size bath is never more welcome.
