"La Brocanterie": on the outskirts of pretty coastal village of Gouville sur mer, this is a beautifully restored stone built house, open and light with all modern comforts. Decorated in 'clean rustic' style with brocante objects and furniture, the house has lovely rooms in which to relax and entertain; a large sunny sitting room, a dining room with fireplace, a cathedral ceiling kitchen-conservatory (fully equipped for enthusiastic cooks) with family dining area under a glass roof. The doors fold open fully onto landscaped pool and deck area (see notes on pool). For kids a second sitting room/playroom with games & books, wifi. 3 bedrooms upstairs, 1 on ground fl. Gouville sur mer is situated on the west coast of the Normandy peninsular. About 1 hr from Cherbourg, 1hr 30 from Caen, it's easy to reach. Changeover day
Changeover day Friday or Saturday. Arrival time between 17.00 - 21.30. Departure time by 10 am.

Notes on accommodation
Whether relaxing by the private heated pool or inside in the quiet sitting room, or by the fireplace, this house is a holiday for the eyes; the character-full interior is decorated with quirky antiques, paintings and a real mix of fun and interesting furniture. The vast kitchen is fabulous for families who love to cook and there's a great indoor-outdoor flow when the folding glass doors are opened onto the deck and pool area. A galleried landing overlooks the dining room and fireplace and the sunny sitting room opens onto the front courtyard. The playroom is on the ground floor near the kitchen and has toys and games for all ages. The house is heated from the end of October to end of March. The pool is generally in use from May to October (depending on weather). Internet WiFi available. We welcome children of all ages though please ask questions regarding safety in the house or outside area. So sorry we cannot accept animals.
Accessibility
There is a spacious en-ensuite bedroom on the ground floor with twin beds, shower and wc. The sliding doors open onto the courtyard. The twin beds can be made up as a big double if requested.
Outside
THE POOL: in use from May to October (check dates with us). It is possible to make arrangements to use pool in low season - please email for info. The pool is 10 x 4.5m and 1m 40 deep throughout. A motorized hard pool cover has been installed specifically to protect young children. The wooden decking area is about 80sq.m and surrounds the pool on 3 sides. There is no diving board. The pool and deck area can be completely closed off by locking the kitchen doors. The doors which open onto the courtyard do not lead to the pool. We have a few pool rules which are for your safety. This property does not have a garden. We welcome children but please ask questions regarding safety in the house, courtyard and pool area, especially if you have very young children. POOL HEATING: the pool is heated by an air pump which runs during the day. In good weather the water is about 28ºC. In cooler weather it is not as warm.
Coast/Beach
Gouville sur mer beach is just under 5 km from the house. Good restaurant and quiet french bar on beach front.
Golf
The house is 15 minutes from Coutainville golf club; a particular friendly club with good restaurant, golf coaching and regular competitions most Saturdays and Sundays in high season. The quick, fun Prize Giving is 7 pm on Sundays. All ages/ handicaps welcome. For those who don't play- the beach front village of Coutainville is a few minutes walk from the golf club.

BARNEVILLE CARTERET (40 mins north) has picturesque village and Michelin rosette restaurant. Cultural outings such as The Normandy Landings, The Bayeux Tapestry and Mont Saint Michel are north east, east and south west of the house.

The thriving village of GOUVILLE SUR MER has ; a twice weekly market, supermarket, 2 bakeries, butcher, banks, hairdressers, beauty treatments, pharmacy, doctors, bar, post office, 2 churches, an exhibition centre for art and paintings and a tourist office. There are 2 restaurants and many more within 10 minutes drive.

Hockley:This villa provided not only excellent accommodation but also a nice patio area with pool, without doubt the nicest we have rented./ Hampshire: The house is every bit as beautiful as it looks in the pictures, in fact even more lovely. It is a wonderful spacious house.We went with 4 children aged 9 - 17 and 2 grandparents and we never felt we were in each others way. The location is ideal for exploring the D day landing beaches, Bayeux or national stud at St Lo. The pool was a real boon. We loved every bit of our time there./North Yorkshire: The description of the house was very accurate and even exceeded our expectations. The kitchen was the most well equipped of any that we have experienced in a holiday home. The position of the kitchen is also ideal as it overlooks the pool, which meant we could keep an eye on the children easily./Essex: I can confidently say that the cottage was by far the best accommodation we have rented.The service during our stay was spot.

We have been living here since 1989 and thoroughly recommend this part of Normandy, La Manche, with its beautiful coastline and pretty villages for a great holiday. We have 2 houses available for holiday rental. "La Brocanterie": An enormous, difficult renovation which took 2 years. James worked hard at restoring what was here, adding old and new elements which compliment the look and feel of the house. The U-shaped home was designed with easy family living in mind and works very well for large groups of up to 10 people. "Mon Souvenir" : available from June 2011.
