Further details
Roquecor is a sleepy medieval hilltop village, tucked away in the department of Tarn et Garonne, close to the border of the Lot and Lot et Garonne. Once fortified, it still retains some of the original buildings, which date back to the twelfth century. Steeped in local folklore and set into the hillside directly below La Forge, lie several prehistoric caves, which were once inhabited by troglodytes. The village has won many awards for its floral displays and boasts a popular Sunday morning market, which trades all year long selling fresh local produce and crafts. The traditional French Café Bar, Cafe du Centre, situated in the centre of the village, offers excellent lunchtime and evening menus and features live music most weekends during the summer. The village shop sells fresh bread and groceries and has a good selection of local wines. There are numerous walks, many of which are signposted from the village and offer the best opportunity to appreciate the superb views and wildlife, including wild boar and the local deer, which can often be spotted from the edge of the garden at dawn or dusk.

"We had a great time, La Forge is a real home from home. We have stayed in quite a lot of gites and cottages over the years and yours has been the best yet" Maureen & Leigh.

"We had a great time at La Forge – what a place! You must have worked very hard to get it into what it is today, you are no doubt very proud of it and we were grateful that you shared it with us" Greg & Leanne.

Owner profile

Ann-Marie Sayle

About the owner
We adore France and having visited most regions over the last 20 years, we discovered the beautiful 'Quercy' region, quite by chance through friends who already had a holiday home in the area. My husband Andy and I, still live in Cheshire although we spend as much time in France as possible in-between our guest bookings.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Having decided on Tarn et Garonne, we eventually discovered the pretty medieval hill-top village of Roquecor and prior to purchasing 'La Forge' we originally bought a small cottage in the opposite corner of the square to test the water. We soon realised we had discovered our dream location and fell in love with the village, the people and the lifestyle. Meanwhile we became captivated by the quaint old former 'Smithy' nestling in the opposite corner of the square and when we realised it too was for sale, we had no hesitation in selling our 'petite' cottage and buying the much larger and totally unique old Forge.

Unique benefits of the property
When considering a home for the future in France, a village location was always our preference but we could never find a village property that could offer all the things we longed for, until we discovered 'La Forge'. To benefit from a quiet village square location, a large secluded cliff-top garden with superb views, along with a magnificent private courtyard swimming pool and a cottage full of character and original features, it was a 'dream come true' and the perfect place for us to renovate and invest in for our future. It now gives us great pleasure to share our cottage with like-minded people, so they too can enjoy the French village experience.
