This is your chance to get away from it all...and to do it in style! Our two properties are set in 15 acres of private parkland, surrounded by mature trees and farmland and not overlooked from any angle. Both have been recently refurbished to a high standard and, from many happy summers there with our 4 children, we can testify that they are ideal for families. The ivy-clad Chateau, an 18th century 'maison de maitre', contains a mixture of practical and antique furniture and is fully equipped. The farmhouse, separated from the Chateau by 50m of woodland, is finished in a practical, modern style. It is fronted by an orchard and enjoys wide views over farmland. Both properties share a 20m, heated, salt water swimming pool and outdoor table tennis table. They can be rented separately or together: those renting the Chateau have the option to also rent the farmhouse 'unoccupied' at half the normal rate to ensure maximum privacy and exclusive use of all our facilities.

Changeover day
Our changeover day is Saturday. We ask guests to vacate by 10am and not arrive before 4pm to ensure a smooth and clean hand-over.
Notes on accommodation
We have holidayed here with our 4 children and their friends for several years and so can testify that this is an ideal location for a family holiday. We do not provide cots, do not allow pets and ask guests not to smoke in our properties.
In case you're worried about how close the 2 properties are, they are 50m apart separated by woodland. More imporatntly, we'd note that we let our 18 year old son and his friends stay in the Farmhouse in 2007 and, in the Chateau, we never heard their all night antics!
Accessibility
Sadly, we cannot offer wheelchair access and would note that all bedrooms are on the first floors of both properties.
Outside
The two houses are set in 15 acres of wooded and lawned grounds. They share a 20m, heated (25-30 degrees), private salt water pool. Both houses have their own BBQs. There is a wide range of both pool and garden furniture (8 sun loungers, 4 deck chairs, c20 garden chairs, 1 hammock). Besides the shared outdoor table tennis table, we have 5 bicycles and there are badminton and boules sets.
Coast/Beach
The Mediterranean coast is an hour and a half's drive to the south west, the peaks of the Pyrenees an hour and a half to the south.
Travel
Carcassonne and Toulouse airports are both an hour's drive from our properties: depending on when you travel, we've found the channel ports are 9-12 hours drive away. Our's is a rural location and the region offers many delights so we advise that a car is essential.
Distances
The town of Revel is just 8km away: it has a range of small supermarkets and hosts the region's main, spectacular fresh food market on Saturdays in and around its medieval central halle. The nearest hypermarket is at Castres 20 minutes drive away. We are equi-distant from Albi (medieval streets/cathedral, Toulouse Lautrec museum), Carcassonne (the famous medieval walled city is a World Heritage Site) and Toulouse (major, modern city with extensive shopping). All are an hour's drive away.
Further details
Chateau de Dournes is a luxurious and ideal 'get away from it all' location, particularly for families - we've enjoyed many happy holidays here with our 4 children and their friends. However, even if you (or, more likely, your children) tire of wandering in your own 15 acres, lounging by your own swimming pool and so on, there is plenty to do nearby! The houses have clear views towards Les Montanges Noire which are 10km away and offer easy woodland walking and mountain biking as well as horse riding. The Lac St Ferreol, outside Revel, is 8km away and is a popular camping and outdoor activities location where you can walk, hire pedalos, windsurf and fish. Canoes can be hired at Burlats, in the valley of the Agout River to the east of Castres (30 minutes drive) and there is go-karting at Aiguefond (20 minutes). There is even an adventure park, Le Cri du Tarzan, just 15 minutes away for those daring enough to scale tall trees and slide down aerial runways! There are some spectacular caves towards Carcassonne and, obviously, more further afield in the Pyrenees.
Unless you have a serious shopping habit (in which case head for Toulouse), Revel (10 minutes) and Castres (20 minutes) offer everything you need, certainly for food. Carcassonne's walled castle/city is, of course, world famous, but our personal favourite is Albi.
Our's is a rich farming region (the meat is very good) and so there is a strong culinary heritage. Castlenaudry (30 minutes drive south) is the centre of cassoulet: foie gras is another speciality. There is even a Michelin-starred restaurant just 20 minutes drive away as well as plenty of other places to eat-out when you no longer feel like BBQ-ing!
Please note that besides sharing the pool, table tennis table and pool/garden furniture, the two properties share the washing and tumble drying machines located in the cellar of the Chateau.
Booking notes
We let April-October but welcome enquires outside these months. Enquiries can be made by e-mail or phone. We ask that guests at the Chateau lodge a £500 deposit in case of breakages, £200 for those at the farmhouse: both will be refunded within 14 days of departure. We ask for a deposit of 30% upon booking and the balance (and security deposit) to be paid 40 days before your stay. Please note that those renting the Chateau can also rent the Farmhouse 'unoccupied' to guarantee exclusive use.
