The accommodation is over 3 floors and has undergone recent renovation. The exposed beams, expert stone work and tasteful decor contribute to the charm and atmosphere of these village cottages.

Changeover day
Changeover days are Saturday-Saturday during July and August but flexible for the rest of the year. To allow for changeover, the earliest arrival time is 3:00pm and the house should be vacated by 11:00am.

Notes on accommodation
Wi-fi access, ipod station and DVD player are provided. A cot, stairgate and highchair are available. Enjoy the special welcome that awaits all our guests at Maison de Vigne and Maison Loli with a free complimentary bottle of Blanquette de Limoux , the regions very own Champagne.
Outside
The terraces, with views to Renne-le-Chateau and Coustaussa Castle on the other side of the valley, is equipped with a table, chairs and sun loungers. An ideal place for alfresco dining and to unwind after a long day visiting the nearby Cathar castles, medieval towns and colourful local markets.
Coast/Beach
There are several local freshwater lakes with beaches for bathing. The nearest is Arques (7 mins drive). Open air bathing is also available at our local spas, Rennes les Bain and Alet les Bain. The Mediterranean beaches are an hours drive.
Skiing
For skiiers the nearest resort at 40kms away is Camurac, with 15 slopes, two of which are green, 8 blues, 2 red and 3 black. With 7 ski lifts, 13 snow canons and 14 km of cross-country ski tracks. Buses leave twice a day from Quillan (7kms) during the season.
Special interest holidays
For anglers the Aude is a Grade 1 trout river just 10 minutes walk from the door, where you can also hire canoes. White Water Rafting and kayaking is available on the river within a 20 minute drive.
Travel
Fly Ryanair from Stansted, East midlands, Leeds/Bradford,Dublin, Edinburgh or Liverpool to Carcassonne -from there its just 40 minutes drive to Montazels. Hertz and Eurocar have offices at the airport plus a shuttle bus is provided to the station for a train to Couiza/Montazels (10 minutes walk to the house). Fly Ryanair from Stansted, Bristol or Luton to Beziers (1.75 hour drive), Ryanair to Perpignan from Birmingham, Stansted, East Midlands and Bristol and Easyjet from Gatwick to Toulouse.
Distances
Carcassonne is a 40 minute drive or take the train - the stop is 10 minutes walk from the cottage.
Further details
Couiza, our nearest village, has shops and restaurants within a 15 minute walk. The larger towns of Quillan and Limoux with are a 20 minute drive. Rennes-le-Chateau is a 10 minute drive and numerous Cathar castles can be reached in under an hours drive.
Booking notes
Payment can be made by either Bank Transfer, Sterling cheque, Euro cheque or Paypal.
The rental price is for up to 6 people for Maison de Vigne and 4 people for Maison Loli.
Electricity and Gas are included in the summer months May - October. We charge at cost price by meter reading from the beginning of November to the end of April.
The rent plus a £150 breakage deposit, is payable 8 weeks before the booking commences. The deposit will be refunded, within 2 weeks of departure.

We had a lovely stay in sleepy Montazels...just the peace and tranquility we were looking for. Maison de Vigne was very clean and comfortable and welcoming. The bike hire went really well. We collected the bikes ourselves. The cycling routes provided by Thomas were absolutely spectacular...the 37-42 degree heat meant we were out early! Lac d'Arques was a beautiful place for afternoon swim and pic nic and the Auberge du Faby in Rouvenac was a wonderful eating out experience. Bernadette and Owen.

We live and work in Northamptonshire and enjoy our time off sharing time with our 3 grown up children and 7 grandchildren.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We bought Maison de Vigne after holidaying in the area with the children some years before. We felt the Languedoc had the best that France had to offer, culture; scenery;climate and history. By 2006 Maison de Vigne and Montazels had become such a special place in our hearts and when an opportunity arose to buy the house next door - Maison Loli, we took it. Enjoying the same views and with a balcony overlooking the Aude Valley we set to work bringing the cottage up to date, installing a new bathroom, staircase and kitchen. After a 6 month renovation project we were ready to welcome our first guests to Maison Loli in May 2011. From Austalia for a 3 months stay without even seeing a photograph we were overjoyed when they told them how much they loved Maison Loli.
Unique benefits of the property
Positioned midway between the Mediterranean coast and the Pyrenees, there is always something of interest to capture the imagination, whether it's Cathar history, the medieval city of Carcassonne, the beaches of the Med, walking in the foothills of the Pyrenees, or a visit to Andorra or northern Spain. At 40 minutes drive from Carcassonne airport with flights from several UK airports, we can leave the UK at breakfast time and be in Montazels by lunchtime.
