Originally two houses built in the early 1600`s the house is right in the centre of the picturesque town of Rochefort en Terre. There is a small secluded flower garden with terrace at the rear and a large integral garage - a rarity in Rochefort, where parking is at a premium. Rochefort offers many attractions and is centrally placed for nearby beaches at La Baule-St. Nazaire and the gulf of Vannes, plus there is a public lake within 5 minutes with boating and secure swimming areas. The house has been redecorated and all services renovated in 2007/8 and is fully equipped to make your holiday a relaxed one.

To the rear there is a small enclosed flower garden with a paved terrace for breakfast "en dehors" There is also a good sized stone outbuilding which contains the barbecue.
This can also be useful for shade in good weather and drying washing if it rains!

The sandy, safe beaches at Vannes are within a 35 minute drive.
Sarzeau is the nearest, but Carnac and Quiberon are not much further.
Damgan Plage and the yacht basin at La Roche Bernard are on the way to La Baule, 20 miles from Rochefort.
La Baule is approximately 35 miles away and also has the benefit of the excellent shopping in nearby St Nazaire.

Nantes airport is approximately 45 minutes away from Rochefort by road.
We can offer a discount of up to 15% off Brittany Ferrie`s prices from St Malo, Caen or Cherbourg.
St. Malo is only 84 miles from Rochefort, the other two ports being somewhat further, but the longest drive involved would be roughly 3 hours.

Distances
There is a wide variety of shops in Rochefort itself, including art and sculpture galleries. Of special interest to the ladies is La Bergerie in Rochefort, stocking discounted Paris fashions.
Malansac, where our other house is located, is 5 kilometres away and has a brand new Super U supermarket. It is also home to the Parc de Prehistoire, the Tropical Parc and at nearby Lizio there is even a Ladybird and Butterfly Farm/Museum.

Further details
The chateau in Rochefort is open to the public and is well worth a visit. There is an abundance of restaurants bars and cafes, especially the Cafe de la Pente which features live music concerts free during the season. Redon, which is approximately 20km away, is a canal port and also has excellent shopping. Even closer is Questembert with its 16th Century thatched covered market and regular entertainment.
Also close by are Josselin and Malestroit, two more fabulous french medieval towns, and of course the Lac au Duc in Ploermel. This is a large swimming and boating facility open to the public, with a restaurant/cafe, very reasonable boat rentals and courses for both adults children to learn sailboating and canoeing. Owner profile

Barbara, Ivan and their daughter Jasmin

About the owner
We are an English couple, Ivan and Barbara, and own two houses in the Morbiham area, within a couple of miles of each other. We still live in the UK but are working actively towards selling up and moving to France permanently this year. We are globe trotters, having lived in the USA, Ghana, Germany & Corsica. We have two dogs, which is why wewelcome pets to our homes in France. Our local connection is a couple who live in Malansac, just down the road from Rochefort en Terre. The husband, Jean-Marc, helped Ivan with the restoration and modernisation work in Rochefort and his wife Dominique does all our cleaning and changeovers for us when we are not there. We have tried to make our houses feel like home rather than a holiday let and bid you welcome to la Morbihan. A bientot!

Year purchased: 2006

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We already own a house in Malansac, the next village to Rochefort, and love the area. In this small area of France there is for us a perfect blend of tranquility AND plenty to see and do.

Unique benefits of the property
Rochefort is a truly quaint and charming medieval town and is a real pleasure to visit, but it does suffer from a shortage of parking, which is why we were so pleased to find our house, which has a spacious garage built in to the property. The views from the bedrooms and the upstairs living room are truly spectacular.
