No need for a swimming pool here! This villa is located in a calm quarter overlooking a stunning panoramic view of the Mediterranean and Pyrenees. It is just a short stroll (600 metres) from the safe sandy beaches of St Pierre la Mer/ Narbonne Plage and situated on the French Mediterranean coast, some 50 miles from the Spanish border. BBQ and relax with a bottle of local wine in the garden as you watch the sail boats drift by. Within easy reach of several budget airlines or driveable.

Changeover day
The booking period is Saturday to Saturday. Departures before 10 am and arrivals after 4 pm. We can be flexible out of season to take advantage of low cost flights. Single week bookings are available outside high season only.

Living Rooms: Living/dining room with doors opening on to rear covered terrace suitable for outside dining. Sofa and armchairs. Coffee table. Dining table and chairs. Satellite TV/DVD/Stereo. Electric heating. Wood burning fire and fireplace (not for use in summer).

linen/maid service:
Bed linen, tea towels, washing up liquid, toilet cleaner are all provided and beds made on arrival. Towels can be provded on request at a modest extra charge. Guests are expected to leave the house as found, in a clean and tidy condition.

Get you in pack (tea, coffee, milk, wine etc.) provided. Ceiling fans throughout. Electric heating throughout. Private parking. Non smokers preferred, strictly no smoking inside. Regret no pets.

Accessibility
Although the property has a bedroom and cloakroom with toilet and hand basin downstairs, there is no shower downstairs and the front garden is shingle which might be difficult for a wheelchair.

Outside
Terrace with table and chairs for outside dining, sun loungers and parasol. Rear garden with a magnificent view of Mediterranean and Pyrenees. Garden furniture and a barbecue. Please note that the end of the garden falls away steeply with many sharp cactus plants growing on the slope, requiring children to be supervised. Front garden suitable for off road parking.

Coast/Beach
Only 600 metres from the safe sandy beaches of St Pierre/ Narbonne Plage. Plus mile after mile of fine sandy beaches (some naturist) along the coast.

Travel
Driveable! Drive to the Med to avoid the ash clouds and the strikes! Only 580 miles from Le Havre which we do in two easy stages. Flying? Easy reach of several budget airlines. Beziers is the nearest airport (25 miles), Carcassone and Perpignan (40 miles), and Montpellier (60 miles) variously served by British Airways, Buzz, Ryan Air and Flybe. Toulouse and Girona airports are also a possibility and although they involve more driving (100 miles motorway) some of our guests have had good deals.

Distances
About half a mile from the heart of St Pierre sur Mer and about two miles from Narbonne Plage.
The nearest large cities are Narbonne and Beziers. Both are about 14 miles and steeped in history.

Further details
2 smallish supermarkets in St Pierre are open 7 days a week in season. Hypermarkets at Narbonne and Gruissan. St Pierre is a well kept secret by the French, in addition to being a beach resort, it is also a great location for sporting activities. There is superb windsurfing/kite surfing, tennis, horse-riding, mountain biking or walking in the Massif de la Clape (a beautiful natural park with rare orchids and exotic birdlife) in the immediate vicinity. There is a traditional daily market and a wide selection of waterside restaurants, bars and cafes. There is a fairground (in season) and disco(s) in the town. Free open air evening entertainment is provided by both St Pierre and Narbonne Plage. Numerous local vineyards offer the ever popular wine tasting.
Out and About, this is historic Languedoc, the land of the Cathars and the Albigensian crusade. Picturesque fortress castles (Queribus and Peyrepertuse are particularly impressive) can provide an enjoyable diversion from the sunshine beach and sea holiday. The fortified village of Minerve, the heart of the Minervois wine region is well worth a visit.
Carcasonne is a splendid restored medieval city; hence it is popular with tourists.
Montpellier, the birth place of Western medicine, is a beautiful city and has a medical museum. Spain is about an hour away by car and just over the border Figeures, home of Salvador Dali, has a museum dedicated to him.

Booking notes
No price increase this year! A provisional booking can be made by e-mail or by phone and a booking form will be sent to you. A deposit of 30% of the cost of each week booked is required at the time of booking. The balance of the rent, plus a returnable deposit of £150 against extra cleaning and/or breakages, being due not less than two calendar months before the commencement of the holiday. On receipt of the completed booking form and deposit, the booking will be confirmed.

About the owner
We are retired and spend the summers here with with our families and grandchildren. Renting the villa gives us a raison d'etre.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We fell in love with this region in the 1980s during our annual summer holidays with the children. This was before budget airlines and it had the great advantage that it was driveable! St Pierre was smaller then and over the years we watched and waited for the perfect location, eventually buying this property with its magnificent view.

Unique benefits of the property
It has a magnificent view of the Mediterranean, in a quiet location and is within easy walking distance of the small town with it's sandy beaches, restaurants, bars.
