Situated in the Pyrenees Orientale, this lively and colourful town, steeped in history, attracts artists, art lovers and visitors alike. Why? It could be its influence in the world of modern art or the sheer beauty of the old town, overhung by plane trees, lined with galleries, artist studios and cafes. It could equally be the narrow cobbled streets opening up into the unexpected squares which are home to a host of restaurants, bistros and bars where you can quench your thirst or take a long leisurely lunch. The attractions of Ceret – the cherry capital of France – worked their charms on some of the art world’s most famous, Picasso, Matisse, Dufy, and Dali amongst them, and surely helped to underline Ceret’s place on the map. With all it has to offer and less than half an hour from the (literally!) miles of white sandy beaches, Ceret is perfectly situated to enable an active, lively break or a relaxing get away from it all holiday for families or couples alike.

Notes on accommodation
Offering the perfect balance of convenience and calm, your accommodation is a ten minute walk from the town centre and the comprehensive range of shops, restaurants, and bars which await you there. This spacious, light and comfortable apartment, recently updated (June 2008) with a new kitchen, enjoys a private setting with off road parking.
It comprises of a spacious open plan kitchen, dining and living area, large separate sleeping area, good sized shower room and a separate WC. The ‘sejour’ is ideally furnished allowing you to relax and enjoy your holiday in comfort. A feature of the apartment is its large, suntrap terrace with panoramic views across to the Pyrénees.
Outside
The apartment has a good size suntrap terrace offering open views over the valley to the glorious Pyrenees mountains. A great place to take your meals as well as catch the sun. Have an eyeful with your mouthful (sorry!).
Coast/Beach
This area enjoys an average of 300 days of sunshine a year. The beaches, about 30 kilometres easy drive from Céret, stretch for a total of 18 kilometres. They are never crowded and there is an abundance of parking in most places. Great for a flat walk or a picnic. And a swim, of course!
Golf
The 18 hole St Cyprien course is about 6900 yards (medal tees) par 72, flat, fairly featureless, a cross between links and parkland, and technically demanding. The 9 hole is 3000 yards (medal) par 35, also flat, but more scenically attractive (parkland, with more trees and water) and although less demanding, is probably more fun, and it’s worth considering playing twice to get the 18 holes in preference to the ‘big course’. Facilities are excellent, and it’s possible to hire clubs, trolleys etc. Cost of a round is between 40 and 55 euros depending on the time of year. Or alternatively - other nearby courses...
Golf du Domaine de Falgos is an outstandingly beautiful, relatively short (5500 yards, par 70) and technically interesting parkland/forest course, but not annoyingly ‘tricky’ as some short courses are. It’s difficult to imagine a golf course being here in the mountains, but it’s worth the twisty journey just to see it. Also Golfe de Carcassonne.
Special interest holidays
Céret is famous for its art heritage. It was the fabulous clear and 'special' light here that attracted such praise from the likes of Pablo Picasso. If painting, drawing or sketching is one of your hobbies, this location is for you. There are a whole host of fabulous squares and buildings to choose and some of the most beautiful countryside in the whole of France. And my word, does France offer some of those!
Travel
Céret is about 30 minutes drive from Perpignan being the nearest railway station and forty minutes from Perpignan airport. Other airports serving the area include Gerona and Barcelona in Spain, Montpellier, Carcassonne, Toulouse, Beziers and Nimes in France. A car is by no means vital, but it is a great advantage if you want to explore the region's wealth of treats. However France also has great public transport networks (which actually work!).
Distances
Collioure (30 mins) a delightful medieval port; Gerona (60 mins) a bustling but ancient Spanish city; Carcassonne's (90 mins) castellated splendour; Barcelona (130 mins) Spain’s second city; Andorra and The Pyrenees (120 mins). Perpignan (30 mins), the buzzy capital of the Pyrenees Orientale, has great shopping, a superb selection of eateries and plenty of entertainment.
