Owner profile
Thomas, your host at Basse Copette
About the owner
Basse Copette offers self catering and B&B accommodation, consequently I live there, and have done so for the last 5 years. Before that I taught archaeology at the University of Manchester. My field of expertise is prehistoric art - such as the cave paintings in the Dordogne. But I am becoming passionately interested in Normandy, and this part of Normandy, and what it has to offer people with all sorts of tastes and interests.
I enjoy cooking, and am currently discovering what it is that makes cuisine in Normandy so distinctive. There is nothing better than preparing evening meals for guests using local knowledge and produce. Not surprisingly, guests return for weekend breaks to have a Gourmet meal and have a relaxing break. My gardening and vegetable gardening skills are improving!

Why the owner chose property in this location
One of my guests, sitting on the terrace having an evening meal and taking in the wonderful sunset over the valley, asked me if I still notice the views and appreciate the location as he was doing just then. It so happens that as I had walked out onto the terrace I too had noticed the golden wheat fields in the the light of the setting sun. Honestly, the sight took my breath away then as much as it did when I first saw it. Besides the stunning location, rural but close to wonderful towns (Abbeville, Blangy and Aumale) and cities (Amiens and Rouen) and other great attractions (Monet's garden), Basse Copette really is easy to get to. It is just an hour and a half from Calais - and only 4 different roads! Only 2 hrs from Paris, 1 hr from Beauvais (Ryanair), and less than 1 hr from Dieppe.
Unique benefits of the property
Living at Basse Copette all year round, I get to see the surroundings and the area in all its glory, to quote a popular line: winter, spring, summer and fall! I know what is available locally, whether it is great farm-fresh produce or something to do on a Sunday afternoon. I know all the good restaurants, and also some of the not so good ones; the popular attractions, as well as those places off the beaten path. What is a constant pleasure about this area of Normandy is how it continues to surprise guests. Most people drive through this area on their way further south into Normandy, or other well-known areas of France. And, like these other well-trodden regions, Upper Normandy is rich in culture and tradition, with so much to do and see for all ages - but without hoards of tourists.
