Chalabre in the high valley d L'Aude. 'Chalabrais' is situated on the edge of the village yet within 100 meters of the bank, shops, two bars and parking. Chalabre is a flat village making it ideal for people with limited mobility. It's a large renovated home with a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

The construction of the Gite is well under way on the ground floor, our objective is to make it disabled friendly. At present the main room can be used as a Residents lounge, it has a fully fitted kitchen area with 4 burner gas hob, electric oven, fridge freezer, microwave,dining table.
In the seating area there is a Woodburner, one Parker knowle chair, a fully sprung double bed settee, a twin settee, DVD player/home cinima system, TV with phono plugs for gaming console. Available at no extra cost.
Outside
Attractive private garden area including large terrace with built in BBQ, table with parasol seating six, small tables, wooden bench and sun beds. Accessible from the balcony of the living room or ground floor.
Skiing
Our nearest ski slopes are 'Pays de Sault', incorporating several ski stations, all types of skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, dog sledding and trekking with snow shoes. Ski schools with hire of equipment covering all ages and abilities from toddlers to 80 year olds. Les Monts d' olmes altitude 1500 to 2000m. is only about half an hour drive away.
Travel
Carcassonne is our nearest airport about 30km serviced by Ryanair from Stansted, East Midlands and Liverpool all about 80 minutes flight time from the UK. Toulouse a little further about 60km, is serviced by all the major airlines and Gerona (Spain) is about three hours.
The channel ports of Northen Spain Santender are about six hours, Roscoff and Cherbough about 11 hours driving time.
Distances
In the heart of the Cathare country there are plenty of Chateaux and Abbeys. The medieval towns of Mirepoix about 20km has a fantastic market on Mondays, with shops, restaurants and cafes. The world heritage site of Carcassonne with it's fortified walled town is 30km. The Canal d'Midi flowing past the ancient walls through the vineyards are all worth a trip.

Chalabre is a large, flat, tree lined village surrounded by fabulous countryside. Situated on the border of Aude and Ariege and not far from the Spanish border. Bank and car park opposite house. Local shops - grocer, greengrocer, butcher, patisserie, chemist. Large supermarkets within 20kms. 2 cafe/bars in village also Stella pizza/pasta restaurant, Hotel de France restaurant, also many good restaurants and cafes in surrounding villages.An ideal place to stay if looking to buy a Holliday cottage or permanent residence in this affordable area of France. Walks and cycle tracks - Ideal centre for walking and cycling -old railway track of 30km from Mirepoix to Lavelanet. Car and cycle hire available locally. Places of interest - Plateau de Beille - skiing, mountain scenery, restaurant - height 2000m - 45 mins drive. Prehistoric caves - with cave paintings at Nioux 40 mins drive. Andorra 60 miles by car. Mediterranean coast - 2 hours drive through scenic mountain pass or 1hour 30 mins on main road. Lakes - pretty, small local lake on outskirts of village with level surrounding path. Montbel Lake 4km large beautiful lake with swimming, fishing, sailing. Puivert Lake - 8kms swimming off Beach patroled in season, fishing, lakeside cafe, surrounding path. The large towns of Pammiers and Foix are about 30 mins drive.
