Our guests are frequently surprised with the quality and thought behind these beautifully restored properties. The surrounding countryside will take your breath away, but Limoges and St Junien are a short car journey away should you need any retail therapy or a brief change from the peace and tranquility of NearlyHeaven. NearlyHeaven is the company name that covers our gites, flying school and horse and dog breeding. Although we are located in the middle of the countryside, the local area is steeped in history and provides many attractions to suit all interests. Why not combine your holiday with flying lessons, horse riding and meeting the animals of our ever-expanding farm. New for 2008 we have started a pets corner which includes Vietnamese Pot-Bellied Pigs, Sheep, Rabbits, Chickens and Ducks, a definite hit with most children. The pets corner is free, but donations towards the up-keep of the animals are welcome as many of the animals are rescued or have been re-homed.

Prices are for the property per week (Saturday - Saturday) in UK pounds, but arrangements can be made with owner for shorter stays and long-term lets.
Changeover day
Changeover day is usually a Saturday, but alternative arrangements are possible. Guests arriving on a Saturday are asked not to arrive before 3pm and on departure to vacate by 11am please. Arrangements can be made to leave baggage if required.

Notes on accommodation
La Chataigneraie is perfect for families and large groups. There is the pool, table tennis, badminton, bicycles, pets corner and 5 hectares of private land to keep everyone busy on-site. Go-karting, swimming lake, model aircraft club, museums, fishing, porcelain factories, zoos and many more attractions close by. La Porcherie is more suitable for a get-away for 2-4 or pilots/trainee pilots to stay for a flying holiday.
Accessibility
Unfortunately, due to the restrictions when restoring the properties they are not suitable for wheelchair access due due many stairs and steps.
Outside
NearlyHeaven is set in 5 hectares of private land including a private wood, all accessible to our guests. Beyond the private woodland are several walks which include lakes and further woodland. La Chataigneraie has a 10m x 4m salt water swimming pool. The pool is slightly heated so as not to be very cold, but can be heated to higher temperatures upon agreement for a fee. The pool is exclusive to La Chataigneraie, but if the 2 properties are booked together can be used for both properties. Both properties have beautiful private gardens, own BBQ and garden furniture.
Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is La Rochelle, about 3 hours by car or 1 hour by plane.
Golf
The region boasts several golf courses within easy reach by car.
Special interest holidays
At NearlyHeaven we offer flying lessons with an English instructor, a fantastic way to view France as a pleasure trip or a much more enjoyable way of learning to fly, getting in your required hours towards your JAR British PPL or to maintain your current JAR British PPL, a thoughtful gift that will never be forgotten or an ideal way to view France to begin or complete a house-hunting trip. Not to mention much cheaper than flying in the UK. We also have a selection of horses at out thoroughbred stud to suit all abilities of rider from absolute beginner to experienced rider looking to brush-up or simply enjoy the lush countryside by horseback.
Travel
As we are a rural location, hire of a car is highly recommended. Limoges airport is approx 20 minutes by car. The nearest ports from the UK are Le Havre and Caen (approx 500km) which has frequent ferries from Portsmouth. Calais is considerably further at approx 700km.
Distances
The local village of Gorre is 1km away and provides pub, restaurant, tobacconist, bakery/shop and a lovely lake and picnic area. Chalus (11km) is the closest supermarket and is also part of The Route of Richard the Lion Heart. Limoges and St Junien are the nearest city/large town, approx half an hour by car.
Further details
As the Limousin is now a very popular destination for British tourists and ex-pats, many places have English-speaking staff. Local places of interest include numerous nature trails, markets, antique shops, wolf sanctuary, adventure playgrounds, safari park, aquarium, museums, water parks, golf, off-roading, paint-ball, not to mention a plenitude of fishing as the region is known as 'The Lake District of France'. Both properties are provided with an information folder containing details of the local area and attractions.
Booking notes
A 50% deposit is required upon booking & the balance due 4 weeks before arrival. A security deposit of 150 euros is required upon arrival.
