TIM & CO

August 2008 Two British families based in Geneva, Switzerland.

Superb location - metres away from cycle/working tracks, park, lake, and lots of other activities. Excellent bread shop 200m away too. This chalet is nearer Morillon than Samoens but think that was an advantage. Lovely chalet and garden. Great view from main living room/balcony. Very well equipped kitchen. Owners very obliging & friendly. Summer Break June 2008 York, England.

My family and I recently stayed here in Verchaix. We didn't know what to expect from the French Alps in summer, we were really pleased. The chalet was perfect, the weather was ideal (we had no rain in the week we stayed and temps upto about 27C).

Owner profile

About the owner
Early 2005 Kevin and I sold our home near Tunbridge Wells, I left my role as a manager for John Lewis, with my long daily commute and Kevin his life in the plumbing trade. We bought a dilapidated farmhouse La Tataz, did a lot of the renovation ourselves. Started our catered ski chalet business Xmas 2005 and were able to indulge our passions for skiing, entertaining, cooking and homemaking. A couple of years later another interesting property near by came on the market, Cristal. We enjoyed renovating & furbishing it in a contemporary Alpine style. It was hard work again but rewarding & at least for Chalet Cristal we had a bit more experience! Since then we added an apartment in Samoens centre, again gutting it and modernising.

Year purchased: 2007

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Although we had skied extensively in the French Alps we had never heard of Samoens or skied the Grand Massif. It was pure chance that we found such a lovely place, we were on a brief New Year Ski Break and fell in love with the skiing here and the charm of this historic mountain town. It's a proper farming community which is also a great for skiing and Alpine summers. I love shopping, having a coffee in the square & watching the world go by & there's the big farmers market on a Wed. In the summer it's cycling, walking, water sports. Winter skiing. Going out to eat in Samoens restaurants is always good, after all the activities feel I can indulge in the local specialties, fondue, raclettes, followed by a tart tatin.

Unique benefits of the property
By the time we purchases Cristal we knew the area well. It's proven to be a super location, for both summer and winter activities. And as it's an established quiet residential area it's a lovely place to live. In the summer it's a short walk to the river, park and lake, and bars & restaurants. There's the mini golf, and tree adventure park, then we can walk along the river to Samoens lakes & park. Plenty of dog walking opportunities, we have 2 Labradoodles. In the winter we have the choice of 2 lift stations, 2 min drive to Morillon or less than 5 to Samoens. Or we can get the free bus.
