The villa was born in 1761 and it still has some birthmarks, which are very beautiful and encapsulated into a modern 21st century house neatly and tidily. It is beautiful, friendly and comfortable. Large garden fully enclosed with swimming pool. Terrific views. The living area has comfy sofas and a TV/DVD system with BBC/ITV and over 300 free to air stations. There is a beautiful dining room. The villa has a fireplace in every room - and even in one bathroom. (Only the one in the dining room now works). The walls are 3 foot thick in places and have what I think are arrow slots! Brand new modern furniture and the latest kitchen equipment compliment all of this. Although only 200 yards to the town you feel as soon as you come in to the property that you are out in the country. The best of both world – a drink in the bars in Verteillac but a stroll home to be in the country – what could be better.

Be sure to pay a visit to the Cafe du Commerce - serving the best 'Croque Monsieur' we have ever tasted. Bar le Calice serves a very good plat du jour Mon - Fri as well as a selection of other dishes. There is a post office and hairdressers. A great town.

Further details
Within easy reach of Verteillac there is a number of interesting places which will delight you. The town of Nontron is some 15 miles north and is set among attractive lakes that provide ideal picnic sites. It stands high up on a rock fortified by massive ramparts and has a picturesque 18th century chateau. This is a perfect place for children as it houses a lively museum of dolls, models, games and toys. Also here are the satirical puppets from the Bebete TV show (like the English Splitting Image).
A short drive from Verteillac there is the medieval town of Brantome where it is a delight to walk around the remarkable and ancient abbey founded by Charlemagne (742-814). With its soaring campanile this is one of the most elegant medieval and Renaissance buildings in the Dordogne, complete with caves used by the monks as kitchens and cellars. The town sits on a bend of the river Dronne and a stroll along the riverside is an unforgettable experience. Loads of brilliant restaurants complete the experience – you will come back. There are also boats trips available.
About 10 km down the river you come to the pretty village of Bourdeilles where there are two chateaux of different periods built on a fortified hill – a medieval fortress (13th – 14th century) and a Renaissance palace (16th) with a remarkable collection of furniture. On the river Dronne you can rent a canoe
Just a short distance away there is the little town of Riberac and is renowned for its Friday market – the best in the area ad well worth a visit.
Not very far away is the town of Grottes de Villars and a short distance north of the town are the caves with some impressive stalactites and paintings more than 17,000 years old. It was discovered in 1953 and is the largest underground network in the Perigord. The underground river has hollowed out huge chambers connected to each other by galleries.
Nearby is the Chateau de Puyguilhem in a village of the same name.
