These two lovely stone houses have enclosed gardens, with beautiful views over open countryside, the famous Gatine. Le Gite retains original features including an oak turned staircase and wooden floors. The view from the balcony of the 2nd floor bedroom is stunning. La Grange has lots of character, with exposed stone walls, old beams and stone fireplace in the farmhouse style kitchen. The shared pool and hot tub are set in a large terrace with plenty of room for soaking up the sun or just lounging in the hammock. There are wonderful views over open countryside from the pool and gardens. The nearest village of Azay-sur-Thouet is close enough to walk to and has a baker for your morning croissants and a butcher; there is also a mobile pizza van on Friday night which comes highly recommended. There are many interesting places to visit nearby within the Poitou-Charentes region and several of the beautiful chateaux of the Loire region are within easy reach for a day trip.

Notes on prices
Prices are in UK pounds per property per week. Short breaks are available off-peak. Please contact us for details. Fuel for the woodburning stoves can be provided at cost. Additional charge of £30 per week/per property for central heating November - March.

Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday, but we can be flexible outside of the peak seasons. Arrival time is after 3 pm and we ask that you leave by 10 am on the day of departure to allow the house to be prepared for the next guests' arrival.

Living room is lovely and bright with wood burning stove, DVD player and TV with UK Freeview channels. Large dining table with seating for 6. Plenty of comfortable seating.
Kitchen: Fully fitted with microwave, dishwasher, electric oven/ hob, washing machine and fridge/freezer.
Bedroom 1 on 1st floor bedroom with double bed. Wooden floor and original stone fireplace.
Bedroom 2 large triple room on 2nd floor with 1 double and 1 single. Balcony with lovely view.
Bedroom 3 with single bed on a mezzanine level with small sitting area.
En-suite bathroom on 1st floor, with bath,shower and toilet.
Separate shower in bedroom 3 on ground floor.
En suite toilet and wash basin in triple room.
Bed linen is provided. Please bring your own towels for bathroom and pool use.

Living room is large and sunny with exposed stone walls and wood burning stove. Patio doors to a seating area at the rear of the property. TV with UK freeview channels, DVD/video player, large sofa and sofabed.
Farmhouse-style kitchen with original stone fireplace and wood burning stove. Large dining table to seat 6. Gas hob and oven, fridge/ freezer, washing machine and dishwasher.
Bedroom 1 is spacious with exposed stone walls and double bed.
Bedroom 2 is a large mezzanine room with 3 single beds and exposed stone walls.
Bright main bathroom with shower, bath and toilet.Additional separate toilet on ground floor.
Bed linen is provided. Please bring your own towels for bathroom and pool use.

 

Notes on accommodation
For winter rents, both houses have heating and traditional wood burning stoves. Please note that the spiral staircases in the properties are quite steep and may not be suitable for very young children. We can provide a high chair if requested.

Outside
The 9m x 5m swimming pool is situated in a paved terrace next to the garden. The pool is shared between the two properties. There are sun loungers, parasols, tables and chairs. There is also a swing for younger children.The pool has a sliding cover which guarantees warmer water temperatures, but also gives the freedom of the outdoors. The pool can normally be used from April to October in comfort and is both fenced and alarmed to comply with French regulations. The hot tub is next to the pool and provides the perfect way to relax at the end of the day.

Coast/Beach
Just over 1 hour drive will take you to the famous resort of La Rochelle, with its old harbour area and Ile de Re with its beautiful beaches. A bit further afield, are the beaches of Les Sables D'Olonne and Royan.

Golf
Chateau des Forges, between Poitiers and Niort is a lovely course with an old chateau as its clubhouse.

Travel
The area is well served by low cost airlines. The nearest airports are Poitiers1 hour and La Rochelle 1.25 hours. Nantes and Limoges are about 2 hours drive and the recently opened Angouleme airport, is about 1.5 hours drive.

Approx driving times from the ports are 6 hours from Calais/Boulogne, 4.5 hours from Dieppe and 4 hours from Caen. A car is essential. Paris is 90 minutes on the TGV from Poitiers.

Distances
The nearest town is Parthenay, 10km away where you will find a full range of shops, supermarkets and banks. Niort is about 30 minutes away and is good for shopping and a day out, as are Poitiers 50km and Angouleme 100km.

Further details
The medieval town of Parthenay is only 10 minutes drive from the properties. Wander through the cobbled St Jacques area with its enamelling and sculpture workshops; there is also a market on Wednesday mornings.
The larger towns of Niort and historic Poitiers provide more extensive shopping. There are plenty of interesting places to visit. The Marais-Poitevin is a beautiful area with a maze of waterways where you can hire punts.Many of the magnificent chateaux of the Loire Valley can be seen in a day trip and 1 hours drive will take you to the lovely towns of Saumur and Thouars, both well worth a visit. The Theme Parks of Futuroscope and Puy du Fou are about 1 hour drive. The Valley of Apes (Valle des Singes) is a great day out, especially for the children. A visit to La Rochelle is a must for its beaches, old harbour and excellent places to eat and drink, with street entertainers on summer nights.
A bit further afield you can visit Cognac, tour the distilleries and take a trip on the river. The ancient town of Saintes provides an interesting day out. There are plenty of outdoor activities to take part in including karting and horse riding. Mervent provides opportunities for lots of outdoor activities including kayaking and canoeing on the large lake.The pretty village of Vouvant nearby is worth a stop on the journey home. For those who want to ski, the Massif Central is 4 hours away.

Booking notes
We require a 25% deposit per property and the balance is payable 8 weeks prior to arrival. A refundable deposit of £200, payable at the time of payment of final balance, will be returned in full providing there is no damage or breakages and that the property has been left clean and tidy. There is a cleaning charge of £5/head payable at the time of payment of final balance.
