Apartment Cazal is 4km from Foix and is surrounded by local forests with granite rock outcrops, at the Southern end of the beautiful Vallee de Leze. The property, which was once a barn, has been updated to provide a modern French living style whilst retaining its character. The apartment is within the owners property, but remains private. Its ideal position below the Pyrenean foothills provides a place to relax, read and sunbathe with easy access to the mountains for sporting activities such as walking, cycling, canoeing and skiing. Explore prehistoric caves, discover the Cathar history, wildlife and gourmet surprises. With the current literary interest in the Cathar culture, we are perfectly placed to indulge in the intrigue and follow the Cathar route to Montsegur, Roquefixade, Mirepoix and Carcassonne. Travelling to Loubieres is simple. Fly to Carcassonne (Ryanair) and Toulouse(BMiBaby). Access to A20 is 3km. Train access is 1km away, leading to Toulouse, Foix and Ax le Thermes.

Changeover day
We prefer bookings Saturday to Saturday, with arrivals after 4pm and departures by 10am, however we can be flexible, on request for those with difficult flight timetables.

Notes on accommodation
The apartment is fully centrally heated ideal for winter. For summer, fans are available on request. However these are not usually needed, since the original construction of local stone, provides warmth in winter and coolness in summer. Smoking is not allowed inside the apartment.
Accessibility
Whilst the apartment was not specially adapted for wheelchair access, its location lends itself to ease of entry all from street level. Internal access is also at same level. There are no steps other than door thresholds. All visitors have private access to the apartment.
Outside
Outside is an ideal play area for children, with large grassed garden and orchard. The property is fully enclosed and gated. There is an area for alfresco dining or sunbathing, including shaded areas both artificial and natural. The garden, which is fully accessible to all visitors, is well stocked with trees, shrubs and flowers. The small farming village of Loubieres, has it's own chateau and within walking distance it's own small Romanesque church. Just beyond, in the next village of St. Jean de Verges,is access to the river Ariege for those who may like to fish. Here you will also find our local Boulangerie, and the ancient Eglise de St. Jean, well worth a visit. Outdoor swimming is available 10 minutes drive away. A gas BBQ is available.
Coast/Beach
To the south is the Mediterranean coast at Narbonne Plage, reached by car in 2 hours. A further 30 minutes south are the beautiful coastal villages of Banyuls and Collioure, famous for its anchovies. Further south is the Spanish Costa Brava. To the west is the Atlantic coast, which can be reached by car in 3.5 hours, where you will discover the chic resorts of Biarritz and Saint Jean de Luz.
Skiing
Within 45 minutes of Apartment Cazal, can be found four excellent ski resorts. Offering downhill skiing and snow boarding is the premier resort of the Ariege Pyrenees, Ax-3 Domaines. 1400m-2400m, 80km of pistes. Mont D'Olmes 1500m-2000m, 21km of pistes. Ascou-Pailheres 1500m-2000m, 20km of pistes. In addition there is Nordic skiing(70km) and snow walking (40km) at Beille 1800m-2000m. Dog sledging can also be enjoyed here. Further a field can be found Guzet, 40km of pistes. Lessons can be provided by France's National ski school Ecole de Ski Francais. Often English is spoken by some instructors.
Travel
There are two airports nearby. Carcassonne and Toulouse both within an hours drive. Car hire is recommended to see the best of our region. Pick up can be arranged for visitors arriving by rail at Foix.
Distances
Apartment Cazal is 4km from the capital, Chateau town of Foix. 18km away is Pamiers. 20km is the Bastide town of Mirepoix. 25km is the thermal resort of Ax Les Thermes.
Further details
Shopping is available at the commercial centre in both Foix and Pamiers, with all major supermarkets represented. Banks can be found here also. There are many fine restaurants in Foix amongst it's winding old streets and half timbered houses, dominated by the Chateau on the rock. Places of interest list the following - Grottos, Lombrives, Niaux and Bedeilhac, Parc de l'art Prehistorique, Eagles d'Orlat (a tactile display of trained eagles in flight). Farm of Bisons. Sports activities in the area are walking, cycling, canoeing, kyaking, climbing, canyoning and fishing. Foix this year hosts the finish of stage 11, of France's premier cycling race Le Tour de France on the 16 July, with the start the following day at Lavelanet a nearby village. Normally each year there is a mountain top stage finish in our area. For those who enjoy French markets, we have a few to choose from. The markets at Foix, Pamiers and Mirepoix provides the visitor with ample choice of fresh home produce, bread, cheese, meat and poultry. In addition many local artisans display their products.
