Set on the edge of a pretty, tranquil hamlet of a few houses and overlooking a lush, green valley, 'La Glycine' is an ideal place to relax and unwind in comfort. The cottage is surrounded by some of the most beautiful country side in France and centrally placed to explore both Dordogne and Vezère valleys. The historic medieval town of Sarlat is a half an hour drive only, as well as a number of famous castles and châteaux, the vineyards of Bergerac (free wine-tasting!) and Les Eyzies with its stunning caves and its National Museum of Pre-history. Within easy reach too are picturesque villages, colourful street markets and some of the finest restaurants in the Périgod Noir. This delightful part of the Dordogne offers canoeing, river beaches, fishing, horse riding, tennis, an outdoor adventure park and a 18 holes golf course, all less than a 15 minutes drive from the properly. In short: a stay at La Glycine will enchant every one, whatever age or interest. You will come back for more!

Notes on prices
Prices are for the cottage per week in UK pounds. A small additional feel may be asked for if the third bedroom in the pool house will be used.
Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday in high season (mid July until end of August). Out of high season, other days may be possible. Arrival at the property after 3pm, departure before 10am.
| Bedrooms: | The cottage has two bedrooms, with two single beds each. Additional bedroom in pool house with 2 singles (available on request). Please note that this room is fairly simple and has steep stairs to it, so suitable for teenagers/young adults only. |
| Bathrooms: | There is a comfortable bathroom with bath/shower over and washbasin in the cottage, as well as a separate toilet. The pool house comprises a shower and separate toilet. |
| Kitchen: | The kitchen is equipped with an electrical cooker with oven, fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave. Iron and ironing board, mixer, coffee machine etc are available too. |
| Living Rooms: | Living room (about 35m², tiled floor, stone walls and beamed ceiling) with dining area and comfortably furnished sitting area. Satellite TV (no paid channels), video (and small collection of English videos), radio and CD player. |
| Cleaning/towels/ linen/maid service: |
Bed linen, bath- and hand towels included in rental (but no change during stay), as well as cleaning on departure.Guests are requested to bring their own pool towels. |
Notes on accommodation
From 11 October - 27 Dember there will be an additional charge of £35 for heating, if heating is required.
The deep stone walls of the cottage retain the cool air indoors in summer and work best if the shutters are closed during sun hours.
A wood fire in the living room can be used in winter or on a chilly night in Spring or Autumn, as well as the electrical radiators.
From the living room, stairs lead up to the first floor which comprises two good-sized bedrooms with parquet floor and storage for luggage, a bathroom and a separate toilet. Please note that one of the bedrooms has a fairly low window, not safe for young children when opened.
Accessibility
Unfortunately the property isn't suitable for people with mobility problems, as the bedrooms and bathroom and toilet of the cottage are on the first floor.
Outside
The property is surrounded by half a hectare of well-kept private grounds. The cottage has a terrace in the front (with garden furniture and barbecue) overlooking a grassed courtyard -along which the stone holiday home of the owner is situated too - and an absolute delightful garden; full of colour from early Spring to late Autumn. Different types of fruit trees and two magnificent lime trees provide blissful shade on the many hot days in Spring and Summer.
From a second, fully private terrace at the rear of the cottage, guests have wonderful views over a green, unspoilt valley. The magnificent pool (12x6m,depth all over 1.50m), situated about 50m from the buildings in the gently sloping lawn, is for guests' use only. It is fenced and equipped with an alarm and has a large terrace with sun beds etc. around it. The pool house, equipped with a shower, separate toilet, sink unit, fridge, kettle and coffee machine etc, is at guests disposal, as well as a table tennis table.
Coast/Beach
The large beaches of the 'departement' La Gironde are a 2.5 hours drive. There are several 'river beaches' close to the property (Le Buisson, Le !Coux).
Golf
There is a 18 holes golf course (Lolivarie) at Saint Germain de Belves (9km from the property) and a smaller one (9 holes) in Siorac (7km). Two other 18 holes golf courses are within a half an hour drive (Vitrac, Mortemart).
Travel
A car is essential for visiting the area. The nearest airport to the house is Bergerac 30 minutes by car, where a car can be hired. There are many cheap flights from Britain to Bergerac (by Ryan Air, Flybe). Périgueux airport (with cheap flights from Paris) is a one hour drive approx Bordeaux airport a 2 hour drive, Toulouse airport 2.5 hours. Driving time from channel ports (Caen, Le Havre) is about 8 hours.
Distances
Distance to Le Buisson de Cadouin with shops, doctor, pharmacy, post office eand tourist office about 3km. Le Bugue, a lively larger village offering all amenities, 12km. Bergerac with a pretty town centre and many vineyards around the town about 30km. Périgueux 55km. The world famous town of Sarlat about 30 minutes by car, as well as Les Eyzies; Lascaux with its pre-historic cave paintings about 45 minutes. Bordeaux (and its beaches) about 2.5 hours. Toulouse 160km.
Further details
Colourful markets are held in all the surrounding villages; for exact information about days and location, please see the 'guest information folder' in the cottage. This folder also comprises information about tennis courts, canoe rental, horse riding, hot air ballooning etc, all near by, as well as leaflets about the many pre-historic and natural sites, museum, castles and châteaux and other tourist attractions such a outdoor adventure parks.
There are plenty of restaurants serving quality food and local wines in pleasant surrounding (for suggestions: see again 'guest information folder'). Throughout the Summer season several music festivals and cultural events are held (e.g. a mime festival in Périgueux, Bach in Belves en surrounding villages); a full program is available at the tourist office.
Dates and locations of car boot sales (vide-grenier), flee markets, antique sales and other festivals are often 'advertised' along the 'major' roads of the region or you can ask the tourist office about them. The tourist office can also supply you with directions for a tour along the châteaux and vineyards who open their doors for wine tasting. Gardeners will love a visit to the gardens ('jardins') of Cadiot (Carlux), d'Eyrignac (Salignac-Eyviques), Marqueyssac (Vézac) or 'les jardins de la Licorne (La Logerie haute, nearby Les Eyzies; visits can be arranged by the tourist office of Les Eyzies).
Booking notes
A deposit of one third is payable on booking. The balance is to be paid 8 weeks before the start of your holiday. In case of cancellation by renters, all sums paid will be reimbursed if another renter can be found for the same period. Reimbursable breakage deposit £150.
