Cottage in the Grounds of a 16th Century Manor House
Peaceful Location on the Outskirts of a Tiny Hamlet
Sleeps 8 (4 Bedrooms)
|
|
Resting in the grounds of a towered Manor house and close to a small Hamlet, Les Herissons (the Hedgehogs!) provides a very quiet and restful location. There are views over open countryside from the front of the property as it borders the vast expanse of the National Park du Marais. This natural park boasts some spectacular wildlife - full of grazing horses in the summer and look out for low flying Storks etc! Only 4-5 minutes drive from a good sized village just 100 yards away the nearby little Hamlet has an excellent small restaurant making wonderful meals and it is just a short stroll down the quiet country lane. Beaches are perhaps 10-15 minutes and the Historic Market Town of St Mere Eglise is just a few miles and minutes drive away.

There are several golf courses quite near to the Manoir - although happily we don’t play golf. However if you’d care to bring your bats along friends say that the courses at Granville and Omaha are excellent and the club course near to Quinaville is fun.

From the cottage the ferry port of Cherbourg is about 35 minutes.
Distances
St Mere Eglise is c.7 minutes and the local village only c.3-5 minutes. The Manoir is ideally located for ease of access to Historic Normandy - whether of second World War fame or the Normans its all just close by.

Owner profile
About the owner
I'll try not to make this sound like I'm applying for a job interview.... I've spent nearly 18 years in France and although still an Englishman (and at heart always a Yorkshireman) I've come to enjoy the slight ‘eccentricities’ of French life, the lack of crime and the lifestyle that one of my friends once said reminded him of England in the 50’s (which I can just about remember).
Initially starting life as an Artist (not a very good one I have to admit) then a student of history for many years, I have found that living and working in Normandy has enabled me to combine both very satisfactorily. I left the stressful life of an investment broker in 1990 and took up the less stressful life of restoring centuries old French Manoirs (hmm... I may have got that last bit the wrong way around)
Year purchased: 1993
