Set in the heart of the Cognac region and surrounded on all sides by the vines of the 'Grande Champagne', this former cognac distillery offers you the highest standard of accommodation and service. Each of the 4 properties is independent with a private terrace but all share the wonderful landscaped gardens, BBQ areas, parkland, pool and games room. Each property has an individual style and retains a wealth of original features such as exposed beams and stonework. L'Ancienne Distillerie sits on the edge of a small hamlet but is still only 2km away from the shops, 10 mins from the bars and restaurants of Cognac town and 45 mins from the coast.

Remy Martin has been created through the renovation of the old grape pressoir building and is one of 4 gites set around a central courtyard.
The beamed open plan living area incorporates the lounge, dining and kitchen areas along with the wooden stairs that take you to the first floor bedrooms.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all modern appliances and includes dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer and cooker.
Full laundry facilities are provided in a separate building.
Along one wall there are 4 French windows leading you out onto your own private covered terrace with tables and chairs for outside dining.
Decoration throughout is a mixture of traditional furniture and modern pieces ensuring that comfort, convenience and style are never compromised.
There is a toilet on the ground floor.
From the spacious first floor landing you enter 4 bedrooms (2 doubles and 2 twins). Both double rooms have antique beds.
There are 2 shower rooms with washbasins and toilets.

The property Hennessy has been created from one of the original Cognac storage barns and now provides top class accommodation.
The vaulted beamed ceiling spans the large open plan living area which incorporates the lounge, dining and kitchen areas.
There is a large window looking out onto the landscaped gardens and the private terrace.
The property is on one level and is furnished throughout with a mix of antique and modern furniture giving you style and quality.
Along with the length of the lounge area there is feature stone wall.
The kitchen is fully fitted and has a dishwasher and microwave.
Laundry facilities are provided in a separate building.
From the lounge a short corridor leads to the 3 beautiful bedrooms (1 double and 2 twins).
The double bedroom has an antique bed and two of the bedrooms have exposed stone walls.
The large bathroom has a shower cubicle, wash basin and toilet and there is also a second toilet and full size washbasin in the next room.

The property Martell has a unique character having been created from the renovation of on old cognac barn, wheel room and wine storage vats.
The property is entered through a private courtyard hidden behind wrought iron trellis work.
The main living area is open plan and incorporates the modern kitchen comfortable armchairs and dining table.
From the lounge there is access to the secluded private terrace furnished with table and chairs for outside dining.
The modern fitted kitchen is fully equipped with cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher.
Full laundry facilities are provided in a separate building.
There are 2 spacious bedrooms (1 double and 1 twin).
The large bathroom has a shower cubicle, wash basin and toilet.
The property is single storey on the ground floor and has full electric heating.

Created from an old Cognac storage barn this property benefits from a wonderful dual aspect with the pool on one side and parkland, vines and garden on the other.
On a single ground floor level the entrance lobby takes you into a corridor with exposed stone walls leading to the main open plan living area incorporating the dining table and chairs, kitchen and armchairs.
The living area is dominated by the large patio doors that frame the beautiful view of the gardens and vines beyond and lead out onto your private patio with table and chairs.
The fully equipped and well stocked kitchen has an electric oven with gas hob, fridge and microwave.
The separate spacious bedroom has a wooden floor and masses of storage.
The bathroom has a modern shower cubicle with body jets, a washbasin and toilet.
The property has full electric heating, a TV (full English channels) and a DVD player.

 

Notes on accommodation
All the properties are heated and Remy Martin has a traditional wood burner in the lounge. All properties are suitable for children. We can provide a stair gate for Remy Martin and cots and highchairs on request. As access to Otard is through the pool area we do not rent this property to under 12’s. All household linen is provided and beds are made up for your arrival. We also provide the majority of the key household needs such as dishwasher tablets, bin bags, toilet rolls and cleaning materials. All gites have wifi internet access.

Accessibility
This site is ideal for people with mobility problems. Everything is on a single level and where there are level changes we have used ramps rather than steps. Vehicle access is almost to your door. Martell and Otard are on a single ground floor level. Likewise Hennessy although there are 3 steps to reach the door of the property. Otard has the additional features of wider door access, a higher toilet and an electric armchair to help you stand up.

Outside
All 4 properties share the large 13x6m pool which is situated in an enclosed gated courtyard. Sun loungers with cushions and parasols are provided. There are 2 BBQ terraces) one covered set in the landscaped gardens that surround the grounds. There is wonderful games room for adults and children alike. We offer everything from pool, darts, table tennis, Wendy houses and board games. There are also many ball games and badminton to play in the parkland to the rear of the property where there are also swings. Attached to the games room is the TV/DVD/Video lounge with comfy armchairs and masses of films to suit everyone’s taste. ( Full English and European TV) There is also a library. Something our guests love is all the tourist information that can be found in our reception. Everything to see and do in the region along with maps and guides for cycling and walking is set out for you. We even provide restaurant reviews of the many places to eat in the area.

Coast/Beach
45 min easy drive to the fabulous family beach St Georges de Didonne with its huge sweep of white sand backed by bars and restaurants. In high season there is also beach clubs for children and water sports on offer. A little further on 60 mins you are at the huge Cote D'Or beach just past Royan or the Cote Savage with it's miles of undeveloped beach and Atlantic rollers backed by pine forests.

Golf
We are within 10 kms of the beautiful golf course at Cognac (St Brice) and 50 mins drive from the Links course at Royan.

Special interest holidays
Throughout the year we act as hosts to a number of yoga holidays. These holidays are organised by independant yoga instructors and we would be happy to direct you to them.

Travel
Easily accessible from the airports of Angouleme, La Rochelle, Bergerac, Limoges, Poitiers and Bordeaux, or you can let the train take the strain as the TGV (with connections through Eurostar) comes to Anglouleme only 20 miles from us. We are exactly 500 miles from Calais the furthest channel port and therefore can be reached in a days drive. Once here a car is recommended although the local shops are accessible by bike or on foot (1.5km). Bikes are available on site for the use of our guests.

Distances
Our local town Segonzac with all the main services is within 2km. Cognac with it's distilleries, restaurants and bars is a 10 mins drive away. We are 8km from the beautiful Charente river valley.

Further details
Everything is on your door step with our local town providing, bank, post office, tabac, 2 bakers, bar, chemist and a full supermarket. A 10 min drive takes you to the large hypermarkets and main town of Cognac which also has a daily market for fruit, vegetables and fish.

Booking notes
A 25 % deposit is requested at the time of booking with full payment being made 8 weeks before your arrival. Payment can be made in either euros or sterling and by cheque, cash or bank transfer. I am sorry but we do not accept credit cards.

Guest comments
In more than 20 years of holidaying in France we have found this house to be the best equipped, most spotlessly clean one ever and the owners the most considerate and thoughtful. We have had a wonderful week which has gone all too quickly. We will recommend you to friends with no hesitation and will miss the peace and quiet, the beautiful gardens and the swifts dipping down over the pool (Aug 2009)

Your development of L'Ancienne Distillerie is a masterpiece of practicality, comfort and elegance. We have holidayed in gites and villas in Cyprus, Spain, Italy, Mauritius, France and Majorca and only one 14th century villa was comparable. We will never forget our stay with you. (July 2009)
