In the heart of rural France (known as 'France Profonde') sandwiched above the Dordogne and below the Loire Valley, Beaulieu is in a tranquil private setting surrounded by fields, near the pretty village of St. Hillaire which lies on the river Benaise. The market town of Le Blanc is only a 10 minute drive away and has 3 large supermarkets, 2 banks and a selection of restaurants. St. Savin, with it's famous Abbaye and beautiful 'Place' is a 15 minute drive away. Montmorillon, well know for having 4 cathedrals, is not much further. Poitiers, home to 'Futuroscope' and a small airport is an hour to the east. Beaulieu is situated in a very rural part of France with an unspoilt landscape of farmland, forests, rivers and lakes. N.B When visiting Beaulieu a car is an absolute must. The property has a fenced 32ft. heatable swimming pool, with terrace, sunloungers, parasols and barbecue. There is all weather table tennis as well private lawned garden surrounds the property.

Changeover day
The changeover day is Saturday. The house will be available from 4pm on arrival date and must be vacated by 10am on day of departure.

Bathroom 1 - upstairs with bath, hand held shower, basin and toilet.
Bathroom 2 - downstairs off the kitchen, with bath/shower, basin and toilet. Also houses washing machine.

Bathroom 3 - downstairs with bath/shower, basin and toilet.
Kitchen: A large farmhouse kitchen with refectory table. It has a stone fireplace with working wood burning stove. The kitchen comprises low level painted cupboards, plenty of kitchen equipment, large gas cooker, microwave oven, fridge freezer and dishwasher.
Utility Room: The washing machine is housed in the ground floor farmhouse bathroom. There is a large clothes airer and a washing line in the back garden.
Living Rooms: One large living room situated in the farmhouse off the kitchen, having french windows to the rear garden and stone fireplace. There are three comfortable sofas around a low level coffee table. Bedrooms 3 & 4 are accessed from the living room.
Other: There is a large unconverted barn adjacent to the farmhouse which houses a full size table-tennis table (bats and balls supplied).
Cleaning/towels/

The property will have been thoroughly cleaned upon your arrival and will be cleaned again upon your departure, in readiness for the next client. A cleaning charge is payable locally. Linen and towels are available on request and are also payable locally.

 

Notes on accommodation
Beaulieu was a working Farmhouse until about 22 years ago and is of stone and oak construction. There are lots of lovely oak beams in nearly all the rooms. The upstairs of the farm house and annexe used to be used for storing grain and are very characterful, being beamy and with sloping ceilings. The farmhouse has terracotta tiled floors downstairs and has wooden floors upstairs. The annexe bedrooms are carpeted. The property has no central heating but there is a plentiful supply of wood for the wood burning stoves.
Beaulieu is in a very private and peaceful setting, surrounded by fields, and is a particularly safe environment for children.

Accessibility
There has been no adaptation for wheelchair users, although the ground floor of the farmhouse could be suitable for impaired mobility. There is a step into the property and a small step into the ground floor bathroom where there is space to turn a wheelchair. You can hire virtually anything you may require for reduced mobility such as hoists commodes and portable ramps ,at the local pharmacy. They will deliver and collect. The pool has a 'roman end' with wide shallow steps for easy access.

Outside
The house, annexe and barn form three sides of a square, with a stone wall running part way along the fourth side providing shelter and privacy for the private swimming pool and terrace. The outlook is over fields which are often full of sunflowers in the summer. There is a large garden at the rear with fields beyond.
The 32ft.heatable swimming pool with terrace is fenced . 6 Sunloungers, parasols, picnic tables and barbecue are provided. Private lawned garden surrounds the property.
The swimming pool can be heated by arrangement. There is a cost price charge that is, again, payable locally.
A table-tennis table is available in the barn.

Coast/Beach
The coast at La Rochelle is about a 3 hour drive to the east.

Golf
There are two golf courses, each approximately 40 minutes away. One is at La Roche Posay, towards Chatellerault, and the other is at Mignaloux-Beauvoir, towards Poitiers. Both are 18 hole courses.

Travel
The nearest airport to Beaulieu is Poitiers, approximately 1 hour away. The airports at Limoges and Tours can also be used. Car hire is available at all airports, although this should be booked prior to arrival. Please check when booking any flights etc.
Calais is approximately 400 miles away, with the Eurotunnel nearby.
Dieppe and Le Havre are approximately 300 miles away.
The Paris-Bordeaux autoroute is an hour to the east and the TGV stops at Poitiers and Chatellerault.

Distances
The nearest village, St. Hilaire Sur Benaize, is a five minute drive away. The market town of Le Blanc is a 10 minute drive away while St. Savin, with it's famous Abbaye and beautiful 'Place' is a 15 minute drive away. Montmorillon, well know for having 4 cathedrals, is not much further.

Further details
There are inexpensive bars and restaurants in the surrounding villages, most of which have fixed price lunch menu's.
The nearest boulangerie is in Bethines. There is also a small grocery shop/bar and restaurant there too.
The nearest large supermarkets, banks (including cashpoints), chemists and shops are all in Le Blanc.
There are several markets each week in the local towns all selling fresh local produce.

Other local attractions:
The theme park 'Futuroscope' is approximately an hour away, just outside of Poitiers.
The medieval town of Chauvigny is just over half an hour away, which has many attractions.
There is also La Isla de Las Serpientes (Snakes' Island) which is about a 15 minute drive away and has various species of reptiles.
La Vallee des Singes (Monkey Valley) is just over an hour away and has over 30 species of primates.
If you are prepared to drive a little further than these suggestions there are opportunities to visit vineyards for tasting and purchasing your supplies.

Booking notes
Bookings become firm on receipt of a 25% deposit. The final balance plus breakage deposit is due 8 weeks prior to arrival.
Linen and cleaning charges are payable in euros on arrival, and a deposit is required if you would like pool heating
