Distances
Riec sur Belon is situated mid-way between Lorient and Quimper, both being about a 25-30min drive. The well known town of Pont Aven, famous for its art and biscuit making and where Gauguin set up his art school, is a 10min drive and the historic town of Quimperle, with its cobbled streets, quaint shops and restaurants is a 15 min away. The centre of the village of Riec sur Belon is 1.5km from La Villeneuve and is about a 15 min walk.

Further details
Riec sur Belon is known as the Oyster Capital of France and there are beautiful views and walks around the Belon river which is approx 20 min walk from the complex. In the village there is a Champion supermarket, 3 boulangeries, 2 pharmacies, newsagent, charcuterie, fishmongers, 2 banks, post office, mini-market, 2 pizza/creperie bars, hotel restaurant and an English speaking doctor and dentist. Larger shops and hypermarkets can be found in Quimperle (15 min drive).
Both Pont Aven and Quimperle have many lovely restaurants. Concarneau is a lovely seaside port with a walled in medieval village. There is a wonderful market there on a Friday morning and there are superb restaurants and creperie bars within the walls of the castle. Pont Scorff Zoo is about a 30 min drive and Brest Aquarium is 1hr away. There are 2 aqua parks near to Quimper and smaller animal parks at Moelan sur Mer and Guidel. Quimper is the obvious choice as the historic and economic capital of the part of Brittany known as Cornouaille. It lies at the confluence of the rivers Steir and Odet, which run through the town that is the administrative capital of Finistere. It has a handsome cathedral and narrow lanes, with perfectly preserved half-timbered houses. But it is not merely a repository of history. It has many high-tech industries and an important food-processing industry, and is known for its local pottery, which continues to delight visitors. Vannes is a wonderful place to visit and has an excellent small aquarium. 1 hr visiting around a compact but very high quality and colourful aquarium. Lovely walled in city with lots of quaint shops and cobbled streets. Moelan Market - Tuesday a.m. Not cheap but has a bewildering supply of cheeses, meats, ciders etc. Well worth a visit for authentic foods. Look where locals are queuing.
