Near the historic market town of Duras, Pierrot and Colombine at Pierrot are a suitable centre for visits to the Dordogne valley with its world famous prehistoric cave paintings, cliff dwellings, and romantic medieval chateaux, as well as the wine chateaux of St. Emilion/Bordeaux and Entre Deux Mers. There are vineyards and orchards in abundance, the latter often devoted to producing the famous pruneaux d’Agen, while everywhere you are reminded of the historical importance of a region that provided the backcloth to much of the 100 Years War which left as its legacy, many fine medieval chateaux and the ‘bastides’ or fortified market towns several of which, for example, Eymet and Monpazier, remaining largely as they were created 600 years ago.

Changeover day
Changeover days - Saturdays. (Two weeks minimum during July/August). The rental period commences at 5:00pm on the first day and finishes at 11:00am on the last day.

The stone built cottage forms part of one side of a courtyard, with its own large private garden to the rear and has been sympathetically restored to a comfortable standard. The large kitchen/dining room has a traditional fireplace with wood-burning stove, exposed beams and tiled floor and is equipped with gas cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave oven, kettle, toaster, cafetiere and dishwasher. The attractive and spacious living room has a stone fireplace, satellite television (BBC and ITV channels) and video DVD player and a cupboard full of games, toys and children’s books. There is plenty of reading matter for adults too! Set near the historic market town of Duras, Pierrot is within an easy drive of the Dordogne valley. The wine chateaux of St. Emilion/Bordeaux and Entre Deux Mers are near-at-hand, as well as the bastides (fortified towns) of the Guyenne, a region that provided the backcloth to the 100 Years War. |

Notes on accommodation
Also provided are an iron and ironing board, hairdryer and electric fans. A cot and high chair are available.
Accessibility
Colombine is adapted for wheelchair access with 90cm doors. There is a disabled toilet in the bathroom, a wheel-in shower and enough leg space under the sink. There is a ramp leading to the swimming pool and the beautiful garden is fully accessible.
Outside
There is a covered terrace with ping pong table and swings for the children.
PIERROT has its own 12.5 swimming pool which is fenced to keep small children safe, has a shallow end of 60cm and deep end of 2m. The large garden at the back of the cottage gives plenty of space for running around, playing ball or boules. There is a covered terrace with table and chairs, ideal for alfresco meals and barbeque.
COLOMBINE has its own 10 x 5m swimming pool (alarmed) with Roman steps. It has its own large garden with plenty of space to run around a terrace with table and chairs and barbeque.

Travel
The house is near Duras in Lot-et-Garonne and the nearest small airport is Bergerac (half an hours drive) with flights from Stansted, East Midlands, Bristol and Liverpool (Ryanair); Gatwick, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds, Southampton and Exeter, (Flybe). Flights to Bordeaux (one and a half hours drive) are available from Birmingham and Manchester (Bmibaby); Gatwick (British Airways); Bristol and Luton (Easyjet) Southampton (Flybe).
Distances
There is a small supermarket at Duras (8km), an Intermarché at Miramont (15km) and large Leclerc at Marmande (23km).
Restaurants are almost too numerous to mention. There are several in Duras and two bars. Several in Eymet (13km) and several bars. Closest is just down the road in Auriac sur Dropt (2km) and Allemans (5km).
Auriac sur Dropt is our nearest village (about 2km) where there is a restaurant and Post Office which also acts as a ‘Depot de Pain’.
Further details
Enjoy strolling round the many village markets available almost every morning of the week, soak up the atmosphere of several evening markets and the many village fêtes.
Local restaurants provide incredible value for money with four course meals costing as little as 11 euros
Memorable day trips would include a visit to the Vezere valley to see the cave paintings at Lascaux as well as the other caverns and prehistoric cliff dwellings and the historic and romantic mediaeval chateaux of the Dordogne.
