The chateau is situated in the beautiful & very quiet valley of Le Loir, which is away from the main tourist area of La Loire, but still within an hour’s drive from most of the main attractions of the region; and driving is a pleasure in this part of France as all of the roads are of high quality. If you drive alongside Le Loir you come to a succession of lovely villages, all with interesting buildings most from middle adge, and friendly cafes. Although this is an apparently quiet part of France there was still plenty to do ( Cycling, Fishing, Horse riding, Water sport, Walking, Wine tasting .... )

If you stay in this area make sure you visit Amboise, with its large chateau and house of Leonardo da Vinci, Tours with its medieval square, The Loire Chateaux, and Le Mans with its magnificent cathedral, old Center and racing car museum.

Travel
The distance to Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris is approximately 3 hours drive. It's less then 1.30 hour by TGV. Car hire is essential as it is the only way to explore the region. Ryan Air is flying to Tours from London Stansted. This will be very convenient for our guests as it is only 45 mins drive to the Chateau from Tours. Car hire is also available at Tours airport. Please contact for useful websites.

Further details
The Loir Valley is a region rich with history : it is the original land from PLANTAGENET's kings who wrote the famous legend of King Arthur ! There are many chateaux and historical towns with roman churches and ruins, beautiful forests, lakes for water sports and the Loir river for fishing. It is a wine producing area and the local wines may be tasted at the many 'degustations'. The local cuisine is excellent and there are many local restaurants to choose from. You will find ancient Troglodyte dwellings in the village of Troo (Richard Lion Heart). The village of PONCE/LOIR has much to offer as well. There are some arts and crafts workshops accross the road from the chateau where you can go to see glassblowing, ceramic production... an ancient medieval church which has beautiful frescos from XII century & one another chateau (16th Century) to visit in the village with beautiful gardens.

Guest comments
‘Claude is very happy to share with visitors the history of his special chateau. He has spent many years restoring a site that contains remnants of a Celtic oppidum and a medieval priory. He will even take you into the labyrinth of tunnels that run under the chateau and contain the secrets of its past. When you come down to breakfast in the Plantagenet chapel you are greeted by the sounds of ancient plainchants which create an atmosphere of calm, tranquillity and mystery. Chateau de la Voloniere is not a typical hotel but if you want a holiday that is relaxing and interesting, peaceful and stimulating, fascinating and different, then the stately rooms and stunningly beautiful setting of this chateau come highly recommended’
