In the South West of France, set in the small hamlet of Fournery surrounded by beautiful rolling vineyards, this is a wonderfully peaceful retreat. With stunning views over the vineyards to the mountains, it makes a comfortable base for exploring the delights of the local area. Fournery is less than 10 minutes drive from the bustling market town of Limoux in the heart of Cathar country. Here you can sample 'Blanquette de Limoux' the world’s first sparkling wine. La Cite, the medieval walled town of Carcassonne, can be reached in half an hour. The Pyrenees are a short drive away, and outdoor activities abound in the locality including kayaking and canoeing, fishing, horse riding, great walks and cycle rides. There are a variety of excellent and reasonably priced restaurants close by and a great family friendly local bar/restaurant in the nearby village of Allaigne.

Notes on accommodation
New heating and water system recently installed. Comes fully equipped for families with young children including cot, bed linen, baby bath, good selection of toys, high chair, plastic crockery and cutlery etc.
Accessibility
Property is quite accessible, although has long front garden. Downstairs is spacious and open-plan. Stairs are fairly steep.
Outside
Terraces to front and rear. Front terrace is sunny and warm and overlooks the long front garden, with the Pyrenees visible in the distance. Back terrace is a real feature of the property and will be newly refurbished for the 2010 season. From here, you can relax and enjoy the stunning views over the rolling vineyards towards the nearby village of Routiers. Outdoor furniture (table, 6 chairs, loungers) provided.
Coast/Beach
Variety of sandy beaches can be reached within an hour by car.
Skiing
Ski slopes of the Pyrenees are accessible.
Travel
Carcasonne airport is the closest and is approximately a half hour drive from the property. Ryanair fly to Carcasonne from Stansted, East Midlands and Dublin. Alternatively, Toulouse airport is one hour's drive away. Use of a car whilst renting this property is essential.
Distances
Carcasonne is 30 minutes drive away. Here you will find the historic walled La Cite, a great destination for a day out or special meal. Limoux, a small and quaint market town, is a 10 minute drive from the property. The Spanish border can be reached in approximately an hour, with Figueras and its Salvador Dali museum just half an hour further on. The Pyrenees mountains are approximately an hour away from the property. Copious vineyards can be found in the locality.
Further details
Limoux, a 10 minute drive from the property has plenty of supermarkets, specialist shops, banks and restaurants. There is a pretty square with a range of cafes and bars. The closest restaurant to the property is in the village of Allaigne, some 4km away. This is run by a Welsh couple and serves excellent, well priced food and wine.

About the owner
I'm Emma Wise, a very busy working Mum of three from Bucks. I live with my partner Paddy in a small town and enjoy running, singing in a choir and reading when time allows. My children are all under 7 and juggling them with a stressful job in tax means that I really relish my holidays and the chance to switch from tax to relax (does that work?). I bought my cottage in France a few years ago as a bolt-hole and more recently have been letting it out for holidays.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
My Aunt has lived in the area for some years and we'd always enjoyed the peace and tranquility of visits to her home - a total contrast from day to day life in the UK. So when an opportunity arose to buy a neighbouring property and to share the wonderful views we'd experienced at my Aunt's house, we jumped at the chance. The cottage itself is in a small hamlet which we like - the aforementioned peace and sense of being far away from the crowds but at the same time there are neighbours on hand so you do not feel too isolated.
There is so much to see and do in the Aude - and even better it's a great place to see nothing but the fantastic views (I know I've mentioned that at least once already!)and do nothing but open a bottle of rose and relax with a bottle of wine on the back terrace.
Unique benefits of the property
We can get cheap Ryanair flights to Carcasonne, pick up a hire car and be at the house in 45 minutes (although we'll often stop to stock up on cheese, pate and bread en route). As soon as we arrive, we can relax. Everything we need is there and we immediately switch to go slow mode - as much as the kids will allow anyway!
