La Lande is a tastefully restored, French 18th century character farmhouse with 2 large holiday cottages, as well as bed and breakfast accommodation, for holiday rentals in Normandy (out of high season for B&B). We are set in a peaceful hamlet away from traffic, 20 minutes drive from the port at Cherbourg and just outside the pretty, medieval market town of Bricquebec. Our holiday cottages are spacious and light with high quality fixtures and fittings. We've made a particular effort to focus on quality furnishings, delectably comfortable beds, a wealth of attractive, original features combined with all modern comforts, whilst remaining totally child-friendly. We have miles of clean, beautiful Atlantic beaches within just 15 minutes drive and the D-Day landing beaches are also within 30 mins drive. We can arrange Battlefield Tours for our guests - please see our own website for more details.

The gites each have grassy terraces and there's lots of space, swings and our in-the-ground trampoline, for children to play safely in the large, landscaped gardens and paddocks. Each gite has a wooden garden table, chairs, umbrella & a barbecue. Fresh eggs available daily from our free range chickens.
We are a short walk, via a lane, from the Voie Verte, or Green Way which is a network of miles of disused railway lines throughout Manche, which have been converted to walking and cycle paths. It's a great place for safe, off road cycling and an excellent way to explore the area.
Coast/Beach
Fabulous, clean, often deserted beaches are plentiful in Manche. Choose from the Atlantic beaches, for swimming, surfing, sailing etc and there are many of them, from the Cap De La Hague down to Mont St Michel. Our closest beach (15 minutes) is at Carteret from where the boat sails daily to Jersey and there's a great little town there with lots of good restaurants. Barneville Beach, Portbail, Hatainville and Surtainville are also within 20 minutes drive. The D-Day landing beaches are very close.
Golf
Golf Club de Cherbourg, Rue Verriers, Glacerie (La) - +33 2 33 44 45 48. Portbail; 9 hole course. 15 mins drive. Approx 15 minutes drive from La Lande. Golf Club Coutainville. 6, Avenue du golf, Agon Coutainville - +33 2 33 47 03 31. Just less than an hour's drive from La Lande, Golf d'Omaha Beach. Chemin du Colombier, Port-en-Bessin-Huppain - +33 2 31 22 44 44. About an hour's drive from La Lande. For loads more golf info, take a look at Brittany Ferries website as they have dedicated a whole section to Golf in Normandy.
Travel
Brittany Ferries from Poole to Cherbourg (20 minutes drive from La Lande) or Portsmouth to Caen (an hour's drive from La Lande). Airports at Rouen, Caen, Dinard and Rennes. A car is recommended in Normandy as there is loads to see and do, spread out over a large area; although if you like cycling, the routes (many off-road) are great too.
Distances
Bricquebec; 1 mile. Several good restaurants & bars. A huge Monday market (the region's biggest) and a chateau. Also a museum and two large supermarkets. Valognes is just up the road (approx 12 mins drive) and is worth a visit. The market here is in a Friday. An outdoor pool, great restaurants and several museums and places of interest. St Sauveur Le Vicomte is 15 minutes away with its chateau, a huge forest with 8 or 9km of walks though it. Lots more info on our website 'Things To Do' page.
Further details
The tourist office in Bricquebec has a comprehensive array of brochures and pamphlets on things to do in the area. There are several banks in Bricquebec; all with ATM machines. Banks are closed on Mondays in this region. Cherbourg's huge shopping park at La Glacerie with Auchan the hypermarket is 15 minutes drive from La Lande and its about 20 minutes from here into the centre of the city. Loads to do in Cherbourg, including an aquarium & a submarine at Cite De La Mere, 3 great indoor swimming pools with slides and water shutes, bowling, cinemas (the Odeon shows films in their original language with subtitles), lots of restaurants, shops and tourist info.
Mont St. Michel is about an hour & a half away by car; many of our visitors have done a day trip down there & it's very well worth a visit. There's a gorgeous zoo at Champrepus (under an hour) where you get to mingle with the lemurs in their enclosure; our kids absolutely love this place!

''Well done you two! It's been a pleasure meeting you both and your family, Emma. We had a lovely time. All the very best - we shall be back'' Jean & Doug, Blandford Forum.
''Emma I don’t normally write to thank people about their hospitality but on this occasion I thought is was appropriate.
Myself and my Husband would like to thank you both for a very enjoyable weekend and for allowing us to use the gite as a private space. We wish you every success with your new business venture and maybe next time we will contact you and book again (which will be a first for us). Many thanks again' Sharon J. Wales.

Owner profile

About the owner
We are a British family and Simon and I decided to move to France in 2007 for a different, quieter life and a complete change of scenery. We have three children; our son Oscar is 7 and our younger daughter, Dulcie is 14 and they both attend French schools and are putting us to shame with their now fluent French. Our eldest daughter, Abbie, is 18 and is in the UK at school in Devon and back here in the holidays. We love the laid back lifestyle, the friendly, warm people and the beautiful unspoilt countryside. The delicious French food and wine only adds to the allure! We have now had two full and successful seasons in the gites; met some lovely people and had many barbecues and aperitifs! Many guests have booked to return which must bode well.
Year purchased: 2007
Why the owner chose a home in this location
It's a peaceful, crime free, friendly area of rural France with fresh air in abundance and a lovely place for our children to grow up and become bi-lingual. Lots of off road riding for the horses and for bicycles and for walking / running. Great tennis facilities in town. Only 15 mins drive to fab beaches on the Atlantic coast. Cherbourg is 20 mins drive for when we need a bigger town, there's even soon (2010) to be a new Ikea in Caen, an hour's drive away!
Unique benefits of the property
I love our location; it only takes me 4 mins to drive Oscar to school & in the good weather we can cycle there in 12 mins (at 7 yr old speed!). The supermarket & petrol station, Super U is 2 mins away in the car & close enough to walk to. The Monday market is great for the sacks of carrots I buy for the horses every week, as well as loads of other locally produced stuff. We have a great outdoor pool at Valognes, just 15 mins away & it's open all year around. Simon & I play tennis & Bricquebec has an indoor & outdoor courts & a really active league. Our gardens surround the house & we're set down a small lane, well away from the main road, which is only a lane in any case. As we have a small child, cats & a free range Jack Russell, this was a big consideration when buying!
