Ideal for that ‘Get Away from It All’ break. Completely renovated lovely old cottage in the middle of this tiny French farming village. Relax ‘away from it all’ in the cottage and enjoy a leisurely walk or cycle ride around the lovely countryside. La Paternelle is situated in St Hilare La Treille, about 45 minutes north of Limoges. The village is small and friendly, its is a working farming village and is in an area that had a large involvement in the French Resistance during World War II. English is not widely spoken so it’s a fab area for practicing your Français. The cottage has been sympathetically restored and offers comfortable accommodation whilst retaining many historic and rustic features, we particularly hope you like the bathroom door! The fitted kitchen was originally a very old store room with a dirt floor! Above the store we discovered a hay loft which has been transformed into a fantastic mezzanine on which to eat your meals.

Walking:
There are several hiking trails in the area. Ramblers can also enjoy some of the 1800 km of bridleways and footpaths in the Haute Vienne. Part of the long-distance route GR4 crosses the department on its journey from the Atlantic coast to the Mediterranean. Other walks range from 8 km to 25 km. The Monts d'Ambazac and the Monts de Blond both have marked routes enabling the visitor to fully explore and enjoy the varied countryside in which they are situated, as do the many lakes, such as Lac de Vassiviere (see below) with its islands criss-crossed by a network of footpaths and nature trails leading to outdoor sculptures of local granite and wood.
Lakes and lakeside amenities

The Haute Vienne has eight lakes offering various amenities. The second-largest of these, Lac St Pardoux is just a short drive away where you will find bathing, windsurfing, sailing, fishing, cycle hire, footpaths, and riding on 330 hectares of grounds. On and around Lac St Pardoux there are many activities to enjoy. Around the lake there are paths for rambles and mountain biking, tennis, beach-volley ball, horse riding, French style bowls (pétanque) and numerous other sporting activities to take part in and enjoy. On the lake are numerous creeks and protected beaches, many water sports activities which include: sailing, windsurfing, water skiing canoeing, kayaking and an aqua centre. Fishing is also available on the lake and also in nearby rivers and private fisheries.

Fishing
A fishing permit is compulsory and may be purchased at hunting and fishing supply shops, tabacs, some bars and cafés. In the region twelve lakes or areas of water are open all year round for fishing with over 2,240 km of riverbank for fishing. Of this 1,956 km is classed as prime trout and salmon waters (category 1) with 286 km mainly for predatory fish species (category 2). Every type of fishing can be practised all year round. Owner profile

About the owner
We are a married couple who love travelling and experiencing traditional life styles.

Year purchased: 2005

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We have owned this property for around 5 years and brought it as we loved the traditional French area, plus the challenge of doing a propoerty up. When we took over the property it was only a one bedroom house with no bathroom or kitchen so the challenge was a big one! Our main aim was the keep as much as the french tradional styles and I hope you will agree on visiting the property that we have achieved this.

Unique benefits of the property
Peace and quiet! However, as a Farming village in rual France you soon become part of the way of life. You might even get the chance to play bouls with the locals!
