Our character stone cottage is situated in a sleepy commune called Courge about thirty minutes drive south of Poitiers, the home of the famous theme park "Futuroscope". The actual village is little more than two dozen or so dwellings, with nothing to disturb the peace and tranquility other than the birds twittering! The climate is warm and temperate. We are south of the Loire Valley and benefit from a "micro-climate" sheltered by the gulf stream. This sounds posh but basically means six months of almost guaranteed sunshine, pool season being May to October, and being an unheated pool some days early and late season may be for the young, brave and reckless! The pool is entirely private and its terrace is enclosed on two sides by French limestone walls creating a very pretty sun trap. the double bubble pool is 28ft long with "Roman End" style steps perfect for dangling your toes even in the evening whilst sipping wine perhaps! A large garden provides sun and shade all day long!

Arrival after 4pm - departure by 10am

| Bathrooms: | Main bathroom with toilet, wash basin, shower, and bath is situated on the ground floor. Additional washroom with toilet and wash basin upstairs. |
| Kitchen: | Large family dining Kitchen, with cooker, hob, fridge, freezer, microwave and toaster. Ample pots and pans and a large wooden table, and french dresser. Door straight out to the garden area with breakfast patio and view of the pool. |
| Utility Room: | Functional room with storage shelves, drinks fridge, washing machine, dishwasher, hot water tank, ironing board & iron etc. |
| Living Rooms: | Large character living room with flag stone floors and wood burning stove is the heart of the house. With drinks cabinet, games cupboard, CD/radio, large wooden coffee table, three seater settee, two chairs, two rocking chairs and all the trimmings. |
| Cleaning/towels/ linen/maid service: |
Linen and towels are included, property cleaned after each individual let be it weekly or fortnightly enough towels and linen provided for 2 wk stay. Garden & pool maintained on a wkly basis by friendly local people. Milk, bread & wine await your arrival. |
Notes on accommodation
Our cottage is well stocked up with basic commodities such as toilet roll, washing up liquid, salt, pepper, etc guests are simply asked to replace what they use so nobody should need to have to go out and buy all the basics! We have a large selection of books and board games at your disposal. There are a selection of childrens toys and books too and outside a swing, slide and sandpit. The cottage is as child friendly as possible and we provide high chair, travel cot and stair gates. Also at your disposal are pedal bikes, with a childs bike and a child seat for mum or dad. In the garden for the less energetic you will find sun loungers, a swing seat, a hammock, and outside tables and chairs, plus a variety of pool toys and bat and ball games . There should be fresh milk, bread, and wine there to greet you on arrival so no need for the big supermarket rush immediately!
Accessibility
The property is on two floors but the main bathroom, and one of the twin bedrooms is downstairs. There are double french doors leading straight into kitchen area and main body of the house is fairly open plan. This makes the property reasonably accessible for wheelchair users. There is one step down from kitchen to lounge but that is the only one on the lower floor.
The lounge floor is traditional flag stones so not completely flat but it is not a major problem and fine for toddlers!
Outside
We have a private unoverlooked swimming pool 28ft long and enclosed by fencing with a double bubble shape, deep end and shallower end! with "Roman end" style steps into the pool surrounded by pretty sun terrace with sunloungers. Three separate lawned areas allowing relaxation, sunbathing and ball games to live in harmony! A breakfast patio outside the kitchen doors provides perfect early morning sunshine. There is a large shaded area in front of the house with swing, slide and sand pit. Barbecue, outdoor tables and chairs, swing seat and hammock at your disposal plus numerous ball and pool toys. There are numerous outbuildings and blackberry bushes and grape vines to be plundered if your lucky enough to be there at the right season. Beautiful clear dark starry nights and lots of wildlife to be found.
Coast/Beach
Our holiday home is not a seaside holiday but if you want to visit the coast you can be dipping your toes in the sea after about a two hour drive.
Travel
The nearest airport is Poitier approx 45mins drive from property. Limoges airport is also a possibility being about a a hour and a half drive.
Distances
The nearest village is St Sauvant a quaint little place where you can purchase all the basic requirements with a choice of two bakers, doctor, phone box, post office, and general store selling fresh veg, fish and meat. Plus home to a super little restaurant with very reasonably priced and varied menu. Lezay is approx 15 mins drive, this a large town holding a very impressive market weekly.
