Notes on accommodation
You have the best of both worlds here! It is a spacious house in extensive grounds yet you are close to the picturesque old town of Bergerac with its wide range of cafes, restaurants, shops and markets. You have your own tennis court, pool and view of the river as well as an array of good restaurants just five minutes drive away in Bergerac and nearby villages. Large supermarkets are just a five-minute drive and the boulangerie is just a 20-minute walk. The house is on the southern edge of Bergerac, just a 25 minute walk (or a 5 minute drive) to the pedestrianised area of the old quarter and just a 10 minute drive to the small Bergerac airport (it is not under the flight path of the small number of planes that use it). The house is situated in a perfect location for exploring the Dordogne valley and beyond. Just 5 miles away are the famous wine regions of Monbazillac, Bergerac and Pecharmant; St Emilion and Bordeaux are 50 minutes and 80 minutes drive respectively.

It has an easily retractable cover which can be used on those (albeit rare) chilly days, and when closed provides full security. The pool is heated between 1 May - 31 October. The house is situated in a perfect location for exploring the Dordogne valley and beyond. Just 5 miles away are the famous wine regions of Monbazillac, Bergerac and Pecharmant; St Emilion and Bordeaux are 50 mins and 80 mins drive respectively. The Dordogne is an excellent area for getting away from the tourist crowds with the best of French scenery and superb food and drink. It is a wine-lovers paradise, 13 AOC wines including Bergerac, Pecharmant and Monbazillac which are just mins away from the house and St Emilion and the other classic Bordeaux regions just a little further afield. Follow one of the many Routes des Vins and sample the wines with the friendly winemakers.
As for restaurants, you are spoilt for choice! In Bergerac there is a terrific selection from small relaxed family-run brasseries to the more formal places. Just a few mins away towards Montbazillac are 2 great places with top-quality menus at just 23-28 euro and there are many more great places that we can personally recommend (after arduous research!) in the surrounding villages. They offer a great range of dishes to choose from including local specialities confit de canard, foie gras, wild mushrooms, walnuts and truffles.
