The property dates from 1850 and was fortunate to escape damage in 1944. It sits back from the main street of the village behind a courtyard available for guest parking. Steps lead up to the first floor and into the large entrance hall. The living room, dining room and guest kitchen are on this floor. A staircase takes you to 2 bedrooms on the 2nd floor and a further 3 bedrooms on the floor above. Behind the house is an extensive terrace and garden, available to guests.

Accommodation

On the first floor the 'Green Room' is a large family room with en suite shower room. It has a double bed, 2 singles and availability of a cot. Also on the 1st floor is our 'Blue room' a double room with private facilities.
On the 2nd floor our 'Gold Room' has a double bed and private shower room, our 'Sage room' twin beds and shower room and our 'Terracotta room' a double bed, 2 singles and a shower room.

 

Notes on accommodation
Our guest kitchen on the ground floor is available to guests and has fridge, microwave and tea and coffee making facilities.
The house benefits from central heating.
Children and animals are made most welcome.

Accessibility
Due to access by steps, people with mobility problems may find us difficult to access.

Outside
To the back of the house is a sunny courtyard and a walled garden provided with garden furniture, table tennis, pool table and barbecue.

Coast/Beach
East coast beaches (D-Day landing beaches) are between 20 and 40 minutes drive away. They are flat and sandy.
The west coast has sandy coves with rocky pools and beautiful views to Jersey and is about 30 minutes by car.
The headlands further north are rugged and indented with small bays.

Golf
The nearest golf course is about 20 minutes drive. The International golf course at Omaha Beach is about 45 minutes away.

Special interest holidays
We offer painting and drawing activities on site and in the locality. Sessions led by Mike Clench, previously an art teacher in England.
In the Autumn and Winter on one Monday each month a local chef provides a cookery demonstration at the house.

Travel
A car is necessary to visit the area. The port of Cherbourg is 40 minutes by car, Ouistreham (Caen) 80 minutes and Le Havre 2 hours.
The nearest airport serving the British Isles is Dinard, a drive of 2 hours.

Distances
Sainte Mere Eglise is 8km from Pont L'Abbe,
Cherbourg 30km.
Bayeux, for a not to be missed visit to the tapestry is 45 minutes away and in the other direction, also not to be missed, is Le Mont St Michel, which will take 2 hours in the car.
The Natural Marshland Park surrounds us and its visitors' centre is 12km away. In the season a boat will take you up the river and point out the flora and fauna.

Further details
The village has all you may need in the way of banks and shops. For a more extensive choice Carentan and Cherbourg can provide.
The village has 1 restaurant but there are many others to chose from serving excellent menus of local seafood and other local specialities.
For the sportsman and woman, there is the possibility to ride, sail or sand yacht, play tennis or golf in the area. There is a small local swimming pool, but larger facilities particularly for the children at St Lo and Cherbourg. There are many walks both coastal and country with the possibility of taking a tour on a donkey.
There are a number of interesting fairs throughout the year, including the Medieval Fair at Bayeux in July, the Candlemas Fair in February at Montebourg and our very own Joan of Arc Fair here in the village in May.
There are museums of all kinds. In Sainte Mere, Carentan and Utah and Omahah Beach you can learn all about the part the Americans played in D-Day.At Colleville-sur-mer is the large American War Cemetery. In Bayeux and Arromanches you will find museums dedicated to the English and Canadians.
Other museums show how the French lived during the war, and other local history including cider and calvados making.
There are chateaux and manor houses and abbeys galore!
