This picturesque, vine-clad cottage is peacefully set at the end of a lane on the edge of an extended hamlet. Built around 1800 in traditional Gascon style, it's full of original (and modern) features. It's well-equipped and comfortable. It has beamed ceilings, an open fire and is attractively furnished with English and French antiques. The attached latticed barn adds to the traditional feel. To the front, there's a pretty, lawned garden lined with mature trees, shrubs and a hedge. A wisteria-covered terrace offers lots of shade. The garden is south-facing and private. At the west side, it opens on to meadows and there's a sunny terrace with long views over fields and forests to the central Pyrenean peaks. Table-tennis, boules, telescope, town bikes (free use), plenty of garden furniture, games, local maps, guidebooks and lots of holiday reading. Come to relax and soak up the quiet. Enjoy southern Gascony's great food and wine, its lush landscapes, clear air and amazing night skies.

Owner profile
Thursday market in Trie
About the owner
We live in the centre of a big central-European city. Our apartment is in the heart of the old town in a district that was once a run-down red-light area. It's now a popular, increasingly gentrified part of town with a growing focus on food, fashion and design. So we really enjoy the contrast that the cottage's private rural location, the quiet and Gascony's beautiful landscapes offer.
Year purchased: 1992
Why the owner chose a home in this location
Our peaceful, uncrowded corner of south-west France is the perfect counterpoint to the hubbub and consumerism of central Munich. This is a lovely spot to escape to - you can relax in sun or shade enjoying real privacy, tranquility, long views and amazing night skies.
Unique benefits of the property
Beautiful location, good accessibility, seclusion (away from the crowds, though not isolated) and plenty to discover close by. Southern Gascony has a lot to offer - lush landscapes, space, unspoilt nature and low pollution, a rich cultural heritage and international attractions like the 'Jazz in Marciac' festival. The cottage has a great deal of charm and a traditional feel. We've worked hard on it over the years and added some modern features to its original character so it's comfortable and welcoming.
