This large family chalet offers space, comfort and quality accommodation only minutes from the piste. Situated within the charming village of La Chapelle d'Abondance and with easy access to the Portes du Soleil network of 650km of skiing covering nursery slopes to the seriously challenging, Chalet l'Amaryllis offers a great base for a family skiing break.
There is also the option to rent Apartment Lily within the chalet offering a self-contained unit that can be linked to the rest of the chalet. The village offers a range of very good restaurants serving local specialities with a range of prices. This is a family resort in a traditional village with limited nightlife, so not for those wanting to party rather than ski. The village microbrewery does however offer a great apres ski-happy hour. Situated within the world's largest linked ski area, the Portes du Soleil offers 650km of pistes covering nursery slopes to the very seriously challenging.

Entrance area with fully equipped laundry room: washing machine, tumble drier and small freezer. Amtico flooring throughout the apartment. Living room: large L shaped seating (also a very comfortable sofa-bed from John Lewis sleeps 2); TV/DVD/SKY. Fully equipped and fitted kitchen with hob, electric oven, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, fridge and dishwasher. Small dining table and chairs. Double bedroom: sleeps 2 with wardrobe. Compact but luxurious bathroom with shower over small bath; WC; and heated towel rail. Heating is provided though a combination of night storage heaters and convector heating. Automatic hot water. |

Notes on accommodation
The chalet is well insulated and heated. Flexible rental options include a family using the main chalet with older parents or family with very young children using the apartment.
Accessibility
Neither the chalet or apartment are wheelchair accessible. However, the apartment is on the ground floor and all on one level.
Outside
Both chalet Amaryllis and Apartment Lilly have their own terraced areas. The property is south facing and the chalet benefits from the sun throughout the day as a result of having 2 terraced areas and 3 balconies. Apartment Lilly also enjoys long hours of direct sun and the terraced area is a great afternoon/evening area. Garden furniture and BBQ equipment provided.
Coast/Beach
Mountain resort. Outdoor pool during summer season in Chatel.
Golf
We have discovered the following and whilst there is no golf course in the Abondance Valley the following clubs are definitely worth considering: Evian Masters Golf Cub - 40 minutes drive. A championship course with great views of Lake Geneva, views and greens are magnificent. Reduced green fees (50%) after 4pm (except August). Villars Golf Club Switzerland : a great high altitude course with views of Mont Blanc on a clear day. An initially daunting course with some great drives up and down the mountain that will memorable for anyone who plays. Lovely terrace cafe and restaurant for after a round, or where a non-playing visitor could spend a few hours reading surrounded by breathtaking scenery. About an hour from La Chapelle and half-price on Mondays. Montreaux Switzerland : a parkland course located in Aigle about 40 minutes drive. Parkland course with very friendly staff who make visitors welcome.
Skiing
Regular ski buses are available & can take you to the nearest ski stations. If you have a Porte du Soleil pass the buses are free, otherwise journeys cost just a few Euro. The bus system works well & can be more convenient than driving/parking - particularly if you want the freedom to ski from one resort to another. Up to date details available from the Tourism office in Chapelle d'Abondance. As an indication: hourly buses from the church (couple of minutes walk from the chalet) to Chatel station from where you can join the Super Chatel cable car or catch one of the frequent buses to Linga; frequent buses to La Panthiaz cable car for La Chapelle & Torgon in Switzerland - if you have the energy you can also use this route to ski your way into Chatel!
Travel
Calais 500 miles/8 hours
Geneva: 60km by road usually about 2 hours; we also recommend use the train to Aigle in Switzerland (40mins away) if you are having visitors - it saves the long drive to Geneva; transfer options available, but a having a car is recommended for supermarket runs.
