Valentine Cottage comprises: an open plan downstairs with comfortable lounge area around an open log fire; dining area and fully fitted kitchen. Upstairs, it has a double bedroom and another with three single beds, plus a totally new bathroom and separate WC. Outside the property benefits from a private walled garden - a real suntrap! - and access to a stunning swimming pool with large terrace with pergola, table/chairs. The property is perfectly situated for easy access to the Atlantic coast (30 minutes), the historic town of Niort (20 minutes) and the beautiful network of rivers and canals known locally as the Marais Poitevin (or "Green Venice"). Many walks are available from the cottage and there are plenty of good local restaurants nearby. Other local attractions include the popular Foret de Chize with its Zoorama and Futuroscope at Poitiers - an easy hours' drive away. Valentine Cottage is situated in the grounds of the owners' house so they are on hand for any help and guidance.

Outside of the high season shorter periods are possible subject to discussion with the owners. Discounts for long stays may also be possible.
Changeover day
Normally changeover day is Saturday, with outgoing guests asked to vacate by 10.00am. Incoming guests are asked to arrive after 4.00pm (to allow time for cleaning etc).

The property is cleaned fortnightly (or on departure if clients stay for one week). Bed linen is included in the price. Towels (but not beach or pool towels) can be provided on request at a cost of £5 per person per week. |
Notes on accommodation
The property is ideal for a family holiday, with plenty of safe and private garden space with swings. The cottage has a large open log fire and also has electric heating throughout. But the cottage also benefits from being stone-built which helps to keep it cool in the summer. Sorry, but no pets are allowed. Valentine Cottage is a strictly non-smoking property.

Accessibility
Valentine Cottage is not wheelchair-friendly.
Outside
The cottage has a private walled rear garden and guests have full access to other garden areas, including the pool area with its large tiled terrace and lawned play area. The open air pool (which is not heated) is 10.5 metres x 5 metres and is salinated. Some pool toys are provided as are sun loungers, parasols, etc. The pool terrace has a shaded pergola with wooden table and chairs. Guests are given sole use of the owners pool during their stay. A barbecue is provided, as is an outdoor dining table and chairs.
Coast/Beach
The Atlantic coast is 30 minutes' drive away. Fabulous beaches at La Rochelle, Chatellailon-Plage, Fouras, as well as the stunning beaches on the nearby islands of Ile de Re and Ile d'Oleron, are all family-friendly and safe. The two smaller islands - Ile Madame and Ile d'Aix - provide wonderful excursions, with great walks; local historic and cultural interest and good eating.
Golf
Golf courses are available at Niort (20 minutes away) and La Rochelle (30 minutes).
Travel
The nearest airport is at La Rochelle, with others easily reachable at Nantes, Poitiers, Limoges and Angouleme. The channel ports of Caen and Le Havre are 5-6 hours' drive. St Malo is slightly nearer; Boulogne and Calais are 9-10 hours' drive. Car use is needed to make the most of your holiday at Valentine Cottage. The area is rural and public transport is very limited. Car hire is easily arranged from the airports.
Distances
The centre of the village, with its boulangerie/shop. bar/cafe/restaurant is a few minutes' walk. The nearest town (Mauze sur-le-Mignon), with its shops, doctors, dentists, pharmacies, supermarket and weekly markets, is an easy 10 minute drive. The historic town of Niort, with its many shops, restaurants, museums and other tourist attractions, is a 20 minute drive. The beautiful Marais Poitevin, with its many rivers, pretty river-side villages and excursions by boat, cycle or on foot, is nearby.
Further details
For those willing to explore slightly further afield, Cognac, Angouleme, Bordeaux are all easily reachable for great days out, as are the many chateaux and towns on the Loire Valley.
An easy hours' drive away is the historic city of Poitiers and its fantastic Futuroscope theme park, with plenty for everyone in the family to enjoy a memorable day out.
Booking notes
We require a deposit of 25% with a booking form to secure your booking. The remainder needs to be paid 8 weeks before the holiday begins, together with a breakages deposit of £150 (returnable at the end of the holiday, minus any damages).
